From School Library Journal
Grade 2-3-Just after Kate turns 9, Nana gives her the 150-year-old china doll that the girls in the family usually got on their 10th birthday. When the child arrives home from her visit with her grandmother, her mother puts the heirloom away, saying that Kate isn't ready for it yet. However, the youngster proves her maturity by giving a once-favorite doll to a girl who can't afford to buy it at her family's yard sale, and Mom gives her Dora Anne. Colored drawings on each page enliven the text. This rather predictable story with a comfortable and satisfying theme works well as an early chapter book.
