A kit to create unique tee shirts for the American Girl dolls is a cute idea, but be forewarned. Girls cannot create tee shirts using only the materials included in the kit!

The kit includes three long sleeved tee shirts (blue, pink, and lilac), a tee shirt "board" (a piece of cardboard to be inserted in the tee shirt while working on it to prevent the glue from seeping through and gluing the shirt together), and an assortment of rhinestone gems and sequins. Also included is an "idea book" of designs to get you started. However, the materials needed to complete most of the designs shown in the book must be purchased separately from the kit. Furthermore, on the first page of the book, it explains that completed shirts (if you create them as the book directs) are *not* washable - *not* a great idea for doll clothes, in my opinion.

To actually complete a shirt, you will need some glue (not included) to affix the sequins and gems to the shirt. The book recommends "Tacky Glue", which is, of course, not washable. Most of the designs shown in the idea book are created using felt (not included), ribbons (not included), and extra beads (also not included).

I would recommend purchasing a bottle of "Fabric Tac" (a washable adhesive for gluing fabric to fabric), and a bottle of "Gem-Tac" (a washable adhesive for gluing sequins, beads, and rhinestones to fabric). Embellishments using a good quality felt would be hand-washable in cold water, after attaching to the shirt using the Fabric-Tac glue, as would any ribbons. Rhinestones, beads, and sequins would be similarly hand-washable in cold water when used as embellishments if attached to the shirt using the Gem-Tac adhesive.

I think this is a cute kit, but could only give it three stars because all materials needed to complete the projects are *not* included, and the fact that the shirts are NOT washable when completed according to the kit instructions is not clearly explained in the kit description.

I purchased this kit for my daughter. I was very disappointed. The shirts do not fit her American girl dolls. They are very tight and very short. I expected better quality from an American Girl product. The book has good ideas, but the kit did not include all of the materials needed to decorate the shirts. I was very disappointed. This was not worth the price we paid.

It is a good value. The book shows great ideas on how to decorate the shirt. The kit does not offer glue and doesn't seem to have all the supplies that the pictures in the book show. However, it is worth the $$$ to get 3 t-shirts for the doll.

Tacky, tacky. My daughter was so disappointed. Does not make it clear until you buy it and open it that the most important items needed to create the designs -- felt, glue, ribbon, etc. -- are not included. Just three cheap T-shirts, a few jewels and some shiny shapes. Not what you'd expect in terms of quality from American Girl.

I expected better from American Girl. Since they dont give you the supplies needed to complete the shirts and they dont mention that until after you get it home and open it, its very frustrating. They could have easily advised you to use fabric glue and washable supplies, but they dont. They tell you just glue it and never wash it. My daughter and I ended up using a bunch of iron on patches i had laying around. The shirts are washable and i didnt have to use any of the cheap junk they sent. Basically you are paying for the shirts alone. There are only a few little jems with the shirts. Nothing worth using. I got the kit from the American girl store in chicago and i paid full price. I wish i had saved my money.

I got this at Amazon for about 13.50, and for that price it was worth it. Do know before buying- it comes with 3 shirts and some gems/embellishments- does not include any fabric, felt or ribbon, which is required to make any of the shirts shown in the booklet.
