3.0 out of 5 stars The Root of Evil...
Many people often misquote this particular bible verse," the love of money is the root of evil" by saying instead that money is the root of all evil. In "A Dollar", the authors allow the readers a peek into the chaos that greed and love of money create using three different short stories with diverse scenarios.

I thought the first short-story "Easy Street"...

The first story about the neighbors was just funny, the second was inspiring but seemed really unrealistic (although the characters were cool), but the third one was so wild that it seemed very realistic. The last one stood out way for than the other two just because it had a beginning, middle, and an end whereas the first two seemed rushed to get to the end. I enjoyed this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Deserves More Than Five Stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!, January 20, 2004
This review is from: A Dollar And A Dream (Paperback)
This was the best book that I have ever read where all the short stories were good. Usually one story is good and the others are mediocre. It really doesn't surprise me because Carl Weber is involved. I can't really say I liked one story more than any other because they were all wonderfully entertaining.
EASY STREET-If you liked Addicted by Zane you'll enjoy this story.
GHETTO FABULOUS- If you enjoyed B-More Careful by Shannon Holmes you'll enjoy this story. And last but definitely not least ONE NIGHT SIX DREAMS-If you liked Shades of Jade by Gloria Mallette you will love this story. This author is going to do very well on the scene with his plot twists and turns. I salute all of these writers on a job well done.

This is the first book I've read by Carl Weber and I must say I enjoyed all three stories. My favorite was "Easy Street" because the ending was so unexpected. At first, I did'nt like the second story but after sticking with it until the end I was pleasantly pleased. Now the last story was one rollercoaster ride and shows what power money and greed can have on people. The book also contains an excerpt from Carl Weber's upcoming novel "Player Haters" which appears to be interesting. If you want to read something a little different than what's saturating our reading market I recommend "A Dollar and a Dream!" Great stories which have empowered me to keep the faith that my dollar and a dream will manifest.

All three stories were excellent. Carl and Jill's story had a great twist at the end. Angel's story was very heart-warming and Dwayne's story depicted the true color of money and the effect it can have on society, on any person, even you. Great writing and character building by all the authors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved It!, October 4, 2003
This review is from: A Dollar And A Dream (Paperback)
A Dollar and Dream was off the hook....all three stories...Carls and LaJill had me smirking, Angel's had me laughing and rooting for the underdog and Dwaynes had me on the edge of my seat. Can't wait to see what Angel, LaJill and Dwayne have coming up. They are sure to be successful.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Root of Evil..., August 22, 2005
This review is from: A Dollar And A Dream (Paperback)
Many people often misquote this particular bible verse," the love of money is the root of evil" by saying instead that money is the root of all evil. In "A Dollar", the authors allow the readers a peek into the chaos that greed and love of money create using three different short stories with diverse scenarios.

I thought the first short-story "Easy Street" was farfetched. Nevertheless, I did finish it but I have read better. In this story, Katrice is trying to hold on to the apartment house left to her by her father. However, she has a "do-wrong" man who loses money gambling on a regular basis. Fortunately, one of the residents, Paul, hits the lotto. But will he be willing to help out Katrice? More importantly, neither Paul nor Katrice expected the other residents to decide that Paul doesn't deserve the money. And one last twist, did Paul actually win the lotto or is he scamming?

In the second story, the main character in "Ghetto Fabulous" is just taking it one day at a time. She is real and tells her story with brutal honesty. She makes you sympathetic to how life just sometimes "happens". When she hits the lotto, the folks come out of the woodwork. Funny how your friends increase when you have money. And suddenly no one cares that yesterday you were a single mother trying to survive in the ghetto.

Finally, in "One Night, Six Dreams", again the storyline pushed the limit on realism. One person was designated to purchase the tickets for the $180 million jackpot. However, when their numbers fall, the celebration is a little premature because brother man decides to take the money all for him self. So begins a tale of how greed can make people do things they would never have dreamt: like murder.

Altogether "A Dollar and a Dream" was a quick, enjoyable read. The title is a good analogy for the mantra of the main characters.

3.0 out of 5 stars 2 out of 3 aint bad, July 1, 2005
This review is from: A Dollar And A Dream (Paperback)
This wasnt too bad. There are three stories here, the first written by Mr. weber himself, and the other two written by two other authors. I will have to say that, carl's story was good, and the last story was great, except for the crackhead testimonials. It had action, suspense, murder, all the entertaining stuff. The middle story was the shortest and also the least entertaining. It was so boring and cliche. Anyway, two out of three stories is not bad at all.

I loved the whole book, and it's theme of the all mighty dollar. One story in particular that caught my attention was the "Ghetto Faboulous". That story was the best I hope to see more books like this in the future so that I can write about it later in the future Carl Weber keep up the good work.
