The hegemony of the dollar in the present world is an undeniable fact. But there are several questions that arise concerning this fact: is the hegemony inevitable, and does it imply an error in the system? Who profits by it, and who is harmed by it? In pursuing answers to these questions, the book shows how the system of dollarization can be ruinous to countries adopting it. Analysis of the system sheds light on the economic dilemma facing one country, Argentina, since the adoption of Convertibilidad. There emerges a constructive strategy to free developing nations from dependence on foreign capital. The book notes the miraculous phenomenon of paper money generating wealth. It urges companies not to 'kill the client,' proposes a solution to the problem of tax collection, and advocates a new attitude towards money. The outside viewpoint put forward by this book claims only to identify key problems and to float suggestions. The practical implementation of new measures will certainly require the labour of academic economists as well as the resolve of political leaders.
