I gave this read two stars only for the first chapter that I had read in the book The Game:Short Stories About the Life. It lead you to believe you really had a juicy story to follow. Well wrong answer this book had a very good plot but the author did not know how to tell a story. If she did Dollar wouldn't have been so stupid. Just doing dumb, mean and evil stuff. I...

Well wrong answer this book had a very good plot but the author did not know how to tell a story. If she did Dollar wouldn't have been so stupid. Just doing dumb, mean and evil stuff. I wouldn't recommend this book as a street book because it seems like the same ol' same ol' without any positive message.

Joy you did it again! I truly enjoyed reading Dollar Bill. Dollar had the right intentions, just went about it the wrong way. I do not think the book was dragged out as one reviewer has suggested, instead it gave you insight into why Dollar did and made the decisions he made. I truly thought he would get out of the "game". Never expected it to end the way it did. Excellent read!!!!

Now I can't wait for the sequel to "The Root Of All Evil".

Joylynn Jossel is one of the hottest new authors to hit the literary scene today!
Her latest novel Dollar Bill is simply off the hook! Dollar shows us that we must be diligent in our quest for perfecting the game, but not so blind that we can't see past the sexy hips and glossed-up lips! Joy, you just keep on giving us these literary feasts!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Tanya Bates - C&B Book Reviewer, February 10, 2005
This review is from: Dollar Bill (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
This gritty yet realistic novel takes the reader on a journey through the personal development of the main character Dareese A.K.A. Dollar. Dollar is committed to taking care of his family after the abandonment of his father. After a robbery turns into murder, Dollar finds himself exactly where he does not want to be.... away from his family. During his incarceration, the mysterious "Romeo" befriends Dollar who decided to take Dollar under his wing to teach the new `pup' some things about the streets. "Romeo" has a shocking deal that Dollar simply can not refuse. Dollar is given another chance at redemption only to find that the life he shut out while incarcerated has changed greatly. Once on the outside, Dollar decides to put to use the information that was shared with him by "Romeo". In no time at all, Dollar is drunk with power and makes choices that not only affect him but those he is supposed to care about. In the end, his whole world comes crashing down with Dollar thinking did I make the right decisions?

I would recommend this book as a good solid read

5.0 out of 5 stars Let Dolla' be thy name, January 5, 2004

Word. This book had many of them. And they all intereresrin ones. Showing the life in the streets of...well I cant remember, but it was some place with hookers and pavement. Anyway, Dollar is a baddasssss with a fist full of money and a heart full of lead, or wuz it the other way around. Either way, this book is good if you have to write a 12th grade book report on something, and you either

1) already read Shakespieres

or 2) cant find cliffs notes on any other book on the list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Good (for Ghetto Fiction), October 29, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Dollar Bill (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
I really don't care for this ghetto fiction stuff that everyone seems to be really into. I only picked up this book because I read the author's novel "Root of All Evil" and it was the best book I had ever read. I was surprised at the genre of Dollar Bill considering the author's last book was more mainstream. Though caught off guard with the nature of the book, I can honestly say that I enjoyed it from start to finish.

Unlike some of that other ghetto stuff out, this book had purpose. It was well written and an all around good read. It had twist and turns and lots of surprises just like her last novel.

This ghetto fiction novel won't let you down with a bunch of ebonics and useless sex and violence. It opens a blind eye that prison doesn't always change a person for the better. Good job Josslyn!
