Deb Baker was born in the Michigan Upper Peninsula (yes, she is a Yooper!), which is the setting for her humorous award-winning Gertie Johnson mystery series. I've never seen so many formatting problems in a published work before. In the first chapters, a lot of underlining made the text hard to read, and there were margin problems throughout the book, not to mention a number of proofing errors. I finally gave up about a third of the way through. It wasn't much of a sacrifice,though, since the characters spent most of their time sitting around talking about dolls and tiny dogs.

I have read all of Deb Baker's books and this one didn't disappoint me. I really have enjoyed reading her books - they are funny, serious and have good plots. I just need more of her books to read. I love to read a good cozy mystery and that is what you get from this book.

Gretchen knows her Mother isn't responsible for the murder she's accused of, but how does she prove it. This story rambles along, there's just no straight path. I guess in the end I'm just not into doll stories. You can't please everyone, but I should have passed this one up.
