This review is from: Dollhouses and Dioramas: Build, Finish, and Renovate the Easy Way With Kits and Ready-Made Parts (Paperback)
This is one of the first books I read about dollhouses and dioramas since I began working on my dollhouse. This book proved to be one of the best ones that I purchased to keep at hand on my shelf. There are lots of useful tips for building a house from a kit and renovating the old house that you found in a garage sale or was passed down from a friend or relative. It isn't a perfect book; it could have expanded on the information, but it does an adequate job. There are lots of photos of dollhouses to look at, some are in color. I just wish they were all in color. It delves into working on the interior of your dollhouse or dioramas such as painting, installing windows and doors; exterior items like shingles, dormers, stucco effects, changing the pitch of a roof, and landscaping, ground cover, trees and shrubs, and about 20+ plus pages exclusively on shadowbox dioramas.
I added dormers to my dollhouse because I liked the look of them, but only learned the name of them and use for them from this book and I'm so glad. The dormers added definition to an otherwise plain roof. Looking for a good read that is also informative and useful reference book for your shelf about min's, I'd say this book would be money well spent. Caution, it is dated back to 1980, but the info is relevant to now. |
