This review is from: Dolls Remembered (Paperback)
We remember our dolls for all kinds of reasons. They were important to us. This is a treasure of reflections on dolls, and what they mean at different times in life. What's their enchantment now? Why were they ever important? This collection of stories reveals the way dolls hold our attention, sometimes long after we have set them aside. The author also tells us the roles dolls have played--even in ancient times.

Delightful Book,

Dolls Remembered is a delightful book that features many stories of dolls collected or enjoyed. I was so pleased to be asked to contribute a story to this book. I chose a very special doll that has been a favorite of mine ever since I "met" her as a child. This book has heart and was created with a charitable goal in mind, that of supporting Special Olympics in Northern Virginia. If you love dolls and want to know why they become beloved objects of material culture, then this book will provide some insight! Patricia Cummings

DOLLS REMEMBERED is a delightful little book that will be a Christmas gift to many friends this season. The stories are sometimes poignant, sometimes humorous, but all are memorable. One of my fondest memories is of my Betsy Wetsy doll mentioned in a number of stories. Betsy Wetsy is the first doll I recall owning, and I played with her during hot Florida summers until her fingers fused together, but she continued wetting! I've come across mention of other dolls that friends had cherished, and I immediately let them know where they can read about them. The pieces are short so that they provide a kind of daily memory blog, almost a devotional to dolls.
My hat is off to Madonna Dries Christensen and iUniverse for a fine job of editing/proofreading. DOLLS REMEMBERED is no shabby production. It's a book you'll be proud to have in your bookcase, and don't forget that royalties go to support a Down Syndrome facility in Northern Virginia. |
