This review is from: Dolls of the World: Princess of England Barbie (Toy)
Princess of England is a very pretty interpretation of a historical era. Her pink gown resembles like a famous portrait of Elizabeth 1 before she was queen. Her crown has a silhouette like the gable hood of Henry VIII's reign, a nice touch. The wide, square neckline, very full over-sleeves and full skirt represent the general style of the Tudor era nicely. On the back of the box, the doll pictured has full golden undersleeves which are fastened with tight cuffs at the wrist. Technically, this would be more historically correct than the tight, pointed undersleeves on the actual doll, but this is a rather small detail. Honestly I thought the her skirt looks and feels slightly cheap, but a proper brocade would be too expensive for a doll that retails at about $20! It is not a major flaw in my mind. She comes with dark rose colored high-heeled half-boots (same style as Princess of Denmark), not historically accurate but cute and a nice accessory to this costume. Besides, Mattell has only so many shoe molds and these shoes are a welcome change from the flats that don't stay on the doll's feet anyway! Her face is lovely, with light golden brown eyes, rather natural looking brown eyeshadows, and muted dark pink lips that suit the costume. Her hair color is actually slightly paler than it looks in many photos of the doll, and is very soft and silky. Her costume is not meant to be removed. The doll's dress is sewn on, and her crown is sewn to her head. This is not an easy doll for redressing, that's why I gave it 4 stars for playability. Also, you might like to know that arms are permanently bent, they are not jointed at the elbow (but this shows off the sleves better than straight arms anyway). Overall, a very good doll. For a $20, it is surprisingly accurate and her lovely, stately appearance makes her a good value and a must-have for collectors of this line!

only a few things that keep it from being perfect. I do tudor re-creating, and a friend got this for me, the way the fabric looks is exceptional (fur and lots of heavy brocaded) the neck line is a little high, but thats hard to get right without proper underpinnings. The bodice and skirt should be the same fabric, or at least a over skirt that matches the bodice, with the underskirt as is. But for those that don't live, breath, and sleep medieval life, its a great example of Tudor dress. I tresure mine. :)

This Barbie doll is definitly dressed in the clothing of the period of King Henry VIII. Her headpiece is similar to the ones that were worn by several of Henry's wives. I also like the backdrop picture of Hampton Court. She is a beautiful doll.
