Product Description

The Renaissance was a time of rebirth for the arts and education in Europe and especially Italy. During this stimulating era, culture, philosophy, poetry and the sciences flourished. The Princess of the Renaissance is a privileged child of the beautiful city of Florence, living in an exciting time of renewal and enlightenment. Barbie wears an elegant gown and headdress like those worn in Italy during the 14th century by noble women and members of the wealthy merchant class. Doll measures approximately 12 inches tall.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS ONE HITS A HOME RUN!!, January 6, 2005
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars

Coming right on the heels of Ancient Mexico and Navajo (both of which I found disappointing), Princess of Renaissance Italy is a welcome rebound. Her costume and face are absolutely gorgeous and her dark features provide nice balance with the many blonde princesses in the series. She meets and exceeds expectations set by her photos - a feat several of the other dolls in this series have not managed to pull off!

5.0 out of 5 stars DOTW Renaissance: Stunning / Beautiful Golden Eyes!, June 16, 2005

When I saw this (DOTW Renaissance) online I thought- oooh, she's a beaut'- but as I try to be selective with my barbie purchases, I thought - I'll wait till I can see her up close and in person... today I saw her in TRU, and there was no doubt I had to have her- I love Barbies with unusual eye color, and she has the prettiest golden eyes, and dramatic dark eye makeup. I also like that she is a brunette - calling this doll 'ugly' is just ridiculous. She has that classic beauty face. I like her much better than say 'Spellbound Lover' (whose costume is awesome, but her face is just ok in my opinion.) I wish amazon would do more face-closeup pix, I'd be much more inclined to buy dolls without seeing them in person if I could see a good closeup. note: why is amazon posting this under the hawaiian princess item I do not know, but I love that doll too!

5.0 out of 5 stars A bit dissappointed at first, but then...., March 24, 2005
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars

When I first saw the picture on amazon I thought this doll was a *must have* for any Barbie collector. When she arrived, though, I admit I was dissapointed that I didn't get that same "Wow" effect. However, after a few minutes of checking her out I determined I was indeed thrilled with my purchase! Being that I collect the Princess Dolls of the World collection, (and would have bought her anyway) I must say she is definitely one of the nicer dolls in the collection (and I am even considering buying a second to remove from the box!) Her hair, though not braided like in the pic Amazon shows, is indeed long (maybe somewhat braided or wavy, it's hard to tell) but gorgeous!. The dress (if you open the box) is not as nice, all one piece as opposed to the way it looks in the pic, but sadly, these DOTW dolls are simply a cheaper end doll and for the price, the dress is fine... overall I would give her 5 out of 5 stars for her appearance. The face looks more unique than many of the other Princess dolls and I personally think she does have a foreign look to her. Her eyes are hazel and her lips a nice dark color, her skin is also not so pale as typical barbie and definitely next to the Russian Princess, you can see her skin is certainly darker (perhaps not truly olive, like most Italians I know, but definitely not white). The box is a dissappointment on these as well. The new design makes them easier to open, however, most collectors will not even do that! I think it allows for dust to creep in easier..and when I did (I couldn't resist) open this one up I noticed the inner 'box' with the Italy backdrop on it was starting to warp already!? Brand new, huh...what will it look like in, say, 5 years!? Hmm... All in all, a must have for the DOTW Princess collector and a even a nice doll for any little girl (or big girl) to remove and play with!
