Fortunately "Dolphin Sonar" is one of Merzbow's more mellow noise music CDs. Merzbow is the only noise music artist that I listen to because he's very talented and the blistering and discordant sounds that he generates periodically transform into semi-ambient soundscapes. Since 2001 the themes for the vast majority of his CD releases accentuate animal rights. The intermittent violence and sonic grandeur of Merzbow's music can be cathartic. "Dolphin Sonar" is very listenable and Merzbow does manage to create some noises that are veritably akin to the marine ecosystems wherein dolphins swim. This CD is a must buy for noise music fans and it might appeal to open-minded wildlife lovers and animal rights advocates who enjoy other musical genres. Merzbow is a unique and compassionate Japanese musical artist. Do not play this over volume level 4.5.
