Book Description

"I'm a dolphin! I swim. I'm not made to walk or fly. I am different from you. Why can't you understand that?" "Why can't you understand that walking is easy?" snapped the Fox. "Easy for you," cried Dolphin. "You have feet, but I have fins." Fox saw Dolphin's fins for the first time. "I'm sorry, Dolphin, I thought all animals had feet and fur too." Dolphin Up a Tree! conveys an important message of cooperation, a recognition of one's own talents and abilities, and an appreciation of the differences in others. From the double Emmy award-winning animation writer and author of numerous children's books including Disney's Winnie The Pooh's Christmas.

About the Author

Kimberly Foster's long list of stories explores a world of enchantment, imagination, and fantasy. Written in the style of a classic fairy tale and geared for ages two to six, the stories are always based on educational themes, such as healthy eating, responsibility, bullying, and coming of age. Her characters-children, bugs, animals, plants, and trees-deal with the same problems and issues as her young readers. Several of her children's books including A Dolphin Up a Tree! have been performed as musicals off Broadway to sold-out audiences for over eleven years, with rave reviews from the New York Times.

5.0 out of 5 stars My 7 year-old loves it!, January 22, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: A Dolphin up a Tree! (Hardcover)
My boy asks to be read this book again and again. He loves to recognize the characters and clearly relates to Dolphin and her dilemma. This is fascinating to me, because each character defines a unique personality type -- and my son is definately a "dolphin." Perhaps he felt "stuck up a tree" when he first began attending school. This book is about teamwork and respect for others -- and I'm so pleased that he's learning these qualities while enjoying his favorite book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Imaginative and Perfect Timing..., December 9, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: A Dolphin up a Tree! (Hardcover)
This book has no better time to arrive than now. With people all over the world fighting, this book illustrates to children the power of collaboration and teamwork. The author uses century-old insights to convey a simple message---valuing different perspectives and including those perspectives is invaluable. I recommend this book to any educator--teacher, parent, or any adult---that wants to spread the message of valuing differences. It is truly needed if we are going to succeed as members of a global community in the 21st century.

This review is from: A Dolphin up a Tree! (Hardcover)
An excellent book to help children learn the importance of cooperation and tolerance. I think this book would be particularly helpful in a family with two or more children as it emphasizes the importance of getting along with your siblings. The book presents a wonderful opportunity for parents to discuss all of these topics. I highly recommend it.
