I recently saw "Dom Hemingway" in the theatre (more on that later), and made a mental note to myself to check out the soundtrack, as the misuc played very nicely in the movie.

"Dom Hemingway: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" (14 tracks; 42 min.) starts off with Citizen Cope's "Comin' Back", one of the many songs that are featured in the movie, mostly from British bands back in the day. We then switch to the movie score, which is composed by the veteran UK composer Rolke Kent, who has brought us the score of movies like Sideways, Thank You For Smoking and Up In the Air. The instrumental score is surprisingly effective, and pleasant to listen to. It is interrupted only by Jacques Brel's "La Fanette" (which plays when Dom and his buddy are visiting their crime boss in southern France). All is well with the soundtrack until we get to the very end, when Big Country's "In a Big Country" plays (which in the movie comes as background music in a pub scene), and... that's it! Wait, where are all the other songs that are featured in the movie? Where is the Alarm? Where are the Godfathers? etc.

At 42 min. they surely could've added more songs from the movie. While the instrumental score by Kent is nice, the reality is that as the movie plays out, the songs that are featured in it play a more prominent role than the instrumental score. Alas, this collection skimps for whatever reason on a good bunch of them, leaving us hungry for more. Buyer beware!

As to the movie, this is a Jude Law tour-the-force, as you've never seen him before. Definitely worth checking out!
