This is a truly stunning volume, grand in size (the pages are about 12" x 16" and there are a few hundred, although only the first section numbers them) as well as ambition. About thirty of Lutyens's best houses are discussed in detail, with insightful and scholarly comments, and the book is replete with illustrations, including floor plans of most stories of all houses featured as well as great photographs (all black and white). However, the author has chosen an unfortunate manner of presentation, where the houses are discussed in the first section, with references to the architectural drawings in the second section and to the photographs in the third. It is a very cumbersome way to explore the homes, especially since the book is so large and heavy. That's the only reason I don't give this book a very solid five stars.
