Excellent album,

This album is like a combination of Bob Dylan and John Prine. It's got a clean, acoustic sound, excellent vocals and nice lyrics. I am looking forward to more music from this artist.

nearly flawless,
This review is from: Domestic Blues (Audio CD)
On this cd, Bap Kennedy reminds me of an Irish Steve Earle, only smoother. It was released on Steve's E2 label & Steve plays on many of the songs. It wouldn't matter though. Bap Kennedy deserves full credit for this absolute masterpiece. The songwriting is incredible. There isn't a dud to be found. Musically, its roots are derived from a country-folk base with an Irish flavor. There is a good cover of Earle's "Angel Is The Devil", which is actually the best version of the song. You won't want to miss the hidden track either. It's a cover of the Irish/Pogues song "Dirty Old Town", on which Steve & Bap trade verses. The contrast is humorous, but it works! "Mostly Water" is perhaps the highlight, displaying Kennedy's wit. The love songs are very moving and sincere. If you like Steve Earle, then buy this. If you don't, then buy it anyway! In a year that saw the release of Lucinda Williams' "Car Wheels On A Gravel Road", this recored more than holds up as desrving a share of the top record of the year(and of most others). Domestic Blues is truly beautiful. To steal a line from Roky Erickson, it flatters everything that's good.

I love this CD, the surprise of 1998,

If you like the Steve Earle CD Train a Comin' then you'll love this Bap Kennedy CD. The dobro work of Jerry Douglas is alone worth the price, as is Junior Husky's bass (one of his last recordings). Bap is just a "too cool" Irish country singer with a heartfelt voice and lyrics that are simple and clear. This is also a great CD to play guitar along with if you're into that sort of thing - polish your chops with the best!

One to discover!,

Bap Kennedy has made an album that feels great, sounds great, and tastes great too! That magical combination of songs & acoustic instruments... raw and clean at the same time. There aren't many albums this good and this well hidden. If you are even a little curious you'll like it!

It just grew on me...,
By A Customer

...picked this one up after standing at a store listening station and have listened to it repeatedly. Boy, has this one really grown on me. Although the songs seem simply written with few chords, that's a deceptive description- the songs are earthy, gritty, memorable, human, lusty, longing. I highly recommend this CD . I'm teaching myself to play most of these songs. Give it a chance, and play it over and over. You'll sing along, feeling connected to old and young, to history. Great band.

Boy am I glad I picked this up! Great lyrics and execution. I've lent this out to numerous friends and everyone reports back very favorably. I can definetly hear Steve's influence, as the trangtrust produces and Steve plays guitar on every cut. Bap needs to tour in the States!

This is simply a great cd. It's one of those that will just keep finding its way into your cd player. Kennedy is great to listen to. All of the musicians in the E-squared corral are in top form. And the lyrics are intelligent and universal. Buy it.

Folk meets country in hand with blues from an Englishman.,

I think people will enjoy this CD no matter what genre of music they prefer to listen. It has brilliant songwriting mixed with a progressive undertone, yet classical, yet country... You must listen to it in the mix with your own music collection to appreciate the genius.

Great acoustic country-blues-Steve Earle meets the Pogues,
By A Customer

An excellent album that I've been listening to everyday for weeks now. Simple(but excellent) acoustic music with great lyrics delivered by a voice that is rough enough to convince any listener that Kennedy has lived through the things he sings about. Cross Bob Dylan, Steve Earle and the Pogues and you've almost got it. The album feels very American in its roots but with an excellent Irish toughness and perspective.
