4.0 out of 5 stars Not too much of a disturbance, February 25, 2003

This review is from: Domestic Disturbance: Original Motion Picture Score (Audio CD)
Mark Mancina replaced Jerry Goldsmith on this one and it is obvious because the main theme sounds almost identical to the theme from Basic Instinct, which Goldsmith wrote. With that said, the score is still a good one, only very short at 29 minutes. The main theme, which is an 11 note motif, can be heard in almost every track, mainly the first one, "Domestic Disturbance." The music is pretty straight-forward and easy to listen to with lots of brass dominating the texture. "Guys Sailing" is a more laid back version of the main theme that plays perfectly in that situation. The action music trademark Mancina action, with rapid string passages, hard hitting brass, and pounding percussion, as in "Run Away!", "Fire Part 1", "Fire Part 2" and the thrilling "Fight/Aftermath." These cues, especially the "Fire" cues, contain exciting and difficult passages for trumpets and horns. In the end, Mancina delivers a good score that serves the film and stands out in parts on CD. I just wish that it was a little bit longer.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok, but it sounded a little too familiar, April 18, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Domestic Disturbance: Original Motion Picture Score (Audio CD)
While I felt that the score was done quite well, and was appropriate for the pace of the film, there were lements that sounded just a little too familiar to me. The piece playing during the end credits sounded like it could have been lifted directly from Jerry Goldsmith's score for Basic Instinct. That was probably the biggest letdown for me. If you like this one, go out and get the Goldsmith score. Or just go and get the Goldsmith score. It's twice as long, and defintely as good or better than this one, in my honest opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars It thrill me up!, January 8, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Domestic Disturbance: Original Motion Picture Score (Audio CD)
It thrill me up! It's great score. When Mark replaced Jerry Goldsmith I was happy. Not that Jerry woun't score the film, but that Mark Mancina will do. I love Jerry's music, but Mark was absent since 1999(Tarzan). This score is dark and demonic. Especialy main theme with Mark playing piano. It's amazing, strong and deep theme. Few notes.Few notes with such passion and power! Great job! 5 Stars, or even 5 and half for the score. But there is one sad thing. This album runs abaut 29 minutes, so it's little to short, but it's worth to buy.
