4.0 out of 5 stars Tank Police: Episode 2 1/2
From Masumune Shirow(creator of APPLESEED)comes this special "filler" story to the original DOMINION: TANK POLICE video series. This manga happens inbetween the two parts of the OVA, namely eps. 2 & 3. Here, it is the not too far off future where Earth is covered by a bacteria cloud that forces everyone to wear gas masks while outdoors. In this hostile enviroment, crimes...

3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining to read, though not one of Shirow's best
This book is reccomended to those who are more interested to Masamune's humorous side....Technical at times, but does not par to his best "Ghost in the Shell" and "Orion."

In this hostile enviroment, crimes are commonplace, and to fight this is the Tank Police. They're your average special forces task squad that patrol the streets in large tanks. Except one tank in particular is custom-made and compact, Bonaparte. This is piloted by the tomboy Leona and her would be boyfriend Al. They usually have their hands full with the criminal/activist cyborg Buaka and his catgirl playmates: Annapuma and Unapuma. Their capturing of the synthetic lifeform, Greenpeace, may be the only hope humanity has of lifting the bacteria cloud. But Buaka plans on heading for outer space to live life on a new colony. Can Leona and her squad stop them? Will the chief ever stop yelling "BRENTEN"? See Shirow's masterwork in action to find out.

P.S. This little baby is actually a prelude into the GHOST IN THE SHELL manga. No kidding!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tank Police!!!, July 3, 2001
By
This review is from: Dominion (Hardcover)
This was the first manga i read back in the year 1997, since then my collection has grown to over 200 books. Unlike many folks who like Ghost in the Shell and Appleseed better this manga is my favorite of Shirow's work. For those who are not of the scientific mind this volume will be much easier to read than ghost in the shell or appleseed, but that does not mean that it loses any insightfulness, anyway one should read the book alone for the exploits of Lt. Brenten and Annapuma and Unipuma

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best mangas, March 19, 2008

This is truly one of the best manga books. It includes the original Dominion plus 32 pages of short story Phantom of the Audience and a few pages about characters and Dominion world. The story is really fun and since it is not as complex as Ghost in the Shell or Appleseed it's easy to follow. I just recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cops driving TANKS!?!?, July 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dominion (Paperback)
Yeah, that's right. Oddball, screw loose cops who drive tanks. It's hilarious, and surprising when most films based on Shirow's mangas have a more serious tone. In truth, Masamune Shirow has a sense of humor that he can't (or simply doesn't want to) put on pause. Even the most poignant sequence is ended with a light-hearted panel that just sells the man's style. It's a cool to see a renowned mecha creator put his spin on tanks and attack choppers. And cat girls. A MUST READ!
