5.0 out of 5 stars SUPERB
I've only recently got into Gotthard, after seeing them play live at Firefest in the UK 2006.

Domino Effect is the third album of theirs I have purchased, and once listened, couldn't belive that Domino Effect was better than Lip Service. WOW

3.0 out of 5 stars It's still Gotthard,maybe 4 stars?
After being blown away by their last release (Lipservice),I was anxiously awaiting the follow up from Gotthard.Let me first say that this is not a bad cd,but it pales in comparison to Lipservice, but to be fair,so does pretty much everything else out there.Standout tracks on this one are:Master of Illusion,The Oscar goes to you,and the call. The songs aren't bad,but they...

This album is a must for any Gotthard fans, plus anyone out there, that wants to try something different and doesn't want to be disappointed.

Well recommended. (PS if you get chance to go and see them on their Domino Effect Tour - Do so - ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC :-)

Who would have thought! After the superb album "Lipservice" I think alot of fans thought that would be the pinacle of Gotthard's career and things would get stale cause surely there was no way to beat that. No way!! This is another great album filled with rock songs in a class of their own. The highlight as always is Steve Lee's vocals. What can you say about this guy, absolutely powerhouse singing time and time again. He gives en emotional delivery and comes up with great melodic lines that make you want to listen to every word. This album also comes with 4 nice bonus tracks that all fans will love. Highly recommended to Gotthard fans and definitely in my top 10 albums of 2007.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gotthard does it again!, October 26, 2007
This review is from: Domino Effect (Audio CD)
In a perfect world, Gotthard would be huge rock stars here in America. Nobody, and I mean nobody, can touch this band when it comes to creating first rate, commercially accessible melodic rock music. Sadly, there are precious few Americans who will discover this band. At least they're still huge in their home country of Switzerland, with somewhere in the neighborhood of 7 straight platinum-selling releases. Now the Swiss have different criteria for platinum status than we do, but that, along with several consecutive number 1 releases, is still a very impressive feat.

Domino Effect is the band's latest effort, following on the heels of the fantastic 2005 album Lipservice. I'm a bit biased, as I think Lipservice is the band's finest hour, but Domino Effect is still a fantastic album. This is the natural evolution of the "party rock" bands of the past like Y&T, Autograph, and to some extent Van Halen. Gotthard isn't stuck in the past though. They've managed to refine and progress that style into something modern that still displays a clear "old school" foundation. Instead of getting introspective and alternative (whatever that's supposed to mean these days), Gotthard decided to keep on rocking, and that's what Domino Effect does. Like previous Gotthard albums, this is a completely fun, upbeat rock & roll album full of catchy guitar hooks and of course Steve Lee's powerful vocals. With most bands I could do without the ballads, but Gotthard's are just as good as their full-on rockers.

Domino Effect is another in a long line of fantastic albums from a band that deserves a much larger audience. I can't imagine any longtime Gotthard fan being disappointed by this one, but it should also appeal to anyone who likes good, fun, rock & roll music.

NOTE: There are a few different versions of Domino Effect on the market. In terms of price and bonus material, the US version of Domino Effect seems to be the best of the bunch. The early Japanese and Korean imports featured one bonus track called Superman. The Tour Edition includes a bonus disc of acoustic tracks. The more affordable US version includes an impressive 5 bonus tracks - a studio number called Can't Be the Real Thing (which for my money is probably the best song on the album) plus the standard and Spanish language versions of Lipservice hits Anytime, Anywhere and Lift U Up - as well as a completely entertaining video for Anytime, Anywhere. If you caught the band's video for Lift U Up (included on the US version of Lipservice), you know just how awesome this band's videos are, and this one is no exception.

5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly the definitive "Gotthard" album!!, February 20, 2011

"Domino Effect" is the 8th studio album by Swiss hard rock band "Gotthard" originally released in 2007. "Gotthard" are identified as the premiere hard rock group of Switzerland with consistent success in their home country.

In retrospect "Domino Effect" would easily be considered amongst the best ever studio efforts of "Gotthard" as well as being the lengthiest with a total of fifteen songs on offer. The line up is as unchanged as ever featuring lead singer Steve Lee, guitarists Leo Leoni and Freddy Scherer, bassist Marc Lynn and drummer Henna Habegger.

Upon first play one immediately identifies that Lee is indeed at the top of his vocal game, possibly his best every performance bringing out both melody and attack with a style similar to Tommy Heart and David Coverdale; Undeniably Lee is the star/protagonist of the band, while the other members lay the foundation for some of the greatest songs in `Gotthard"s career. The songwriting is to the point and totally infectious with performance following in the same fashion being heavy and melodic still avoiding over-layering the compositions. So at basis you get a classic sounding riff, a twin guitar melody, solid rhythm section and a memorable chorus; this is the recipe of "Domino effect" and should work ideally for any fan of hard rock, melodic rock and AOR.

Favorite tracks include "Domino effect", "The oscar goes to", "Gone too far" and "Master of Illusion". Conclusively while "Domino effect" finds instant appeal on any hard rock fan, it does have the musical depth and length to draw the listener to it time and time again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Consistently excellent Swiss band, August 23, 2009

I bought Gotthard's "Lip Service' a couple of years ago and that is one of the best albums in the past 10 years. So I had to get "Domino Effect" but had been unable to get it in Australia so Amazon came to the rescue with a great service. "Domino Effect" is a fine album of solid tunes although it does not rock as much as "Lip Service". The big rock ballads, for which Gotthard are rightly famous, all hit the spot and when they rock-out they really cook. Superb muicianship and a big "wall of rock" sound make for another excellent LP.

Between the awesome lead vocals of Steve Lee and the great guitar riffs of Leo and Freddy to the heavy hitting bass of Marc and the perfectly timed drums of henna this band would blow any American/ UK/ Japan band away. My personal favorites: Come Alive, The Oscar goes to, and Falling. Steves voice on Falling is nothing less than perfection.

At first listen after having picked up "Lipservice" I was a bit disappointed, but after some time away from both discs my opinion changed. Dominoe Effect is different, a little touch of the electronica and perhaps a bit moodier, nevertheless every bit as awesome as Lipservice... just different.

So you say you haven't picked up on Gotthard yet? Guess what" You're losing out BIGTIME! These guys are by comparison a more 'rocked out' version of Bon Jovi,Journey. and if you like Aerosmith,Tesla,Def Leppard,Dokken,etc..then you NEED to get some cd's by these guys! Domino Effect is their latest masterpiece,and-tho a bit 'heavier' that their last one,Lipservice (also AWESOME!!),the band still has TONS of musical integrity in place here. And I hear this will get a US release later in '07. Watch fot it,if you don't like import prices. But be forwarned...you'll need to get some/all of their other cds as well! Also HIGHLY recommended: 'Lipservice', ''G', 'Open','Homerun',and 'Human Zoo'. Some great 'used' prices for some of 'em right here on Amazon. So don't wait any longer...discover one of the world's most AWESOME rock bands! Enjoy...T
