3.0 out of 5 stars why R-rated?, March 18, 2001
This review is from: Domo Arrigato [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Just a delicate love story with no obscenity nor violence nor scenes of sexual content. Two young american tourists meet in Japan and slowly fall in love sharing their problems ("Arrigato" = "thank you" in japanese) I bought this video because I'm a 3d enthousiast and new 3d movies are rare. The movie is in anaglyph format (red blue glasses) and in colours. Colour anaglyph movies are unusual, because this format is particularly prone to generate "ghost" images, due to poor fusion of the split images forming the stereoscopic picture). In this movie the use of 3d was accurate and wise, so particularly disturbing "ghosting" situations were avoided. Furthermore the 3d colour anaglyph format is particularly unsuitable for videos, due to TV colour rendering, so pictures turn flat althought "ghosts" can be even more evident (split vision). This video suffers from such problems, nevertheless I still could enjoy it. Conclusions: love stories aren't my favourite subject, and the 3d effect aren't stunning at all, but I'm happy to have it in my 3d video collection.
