Even all his years of battling--first against the Fascists, then against the local Communists-- have left the big Italian priest from the Po Valley unprepared for a visit from his wayward niece, Flora. It is an Excellent Book.It will last through the ages.Readers of all ages will enjoy it and be enlightened by it. The book is worth every Dollar that you spend upon it.
But there is a small technical, ethical FRAUD , perpetuated on the Buyer by the Publishers. That is : This book was already published under another name: Don Camillo Meets Hell's Angels". I wasted my money in buying a book that I already have. And I resent that .

The last entry in the six volume series by Italian humorist Giovanni Guareschi, who died prematurely before it's publication. Written in the mid 1960's when the tremendous changes set in motion by Vatican ll were working their way down to the parish level,"Flower Children" finds both the parish priest Don Camillo and his longtime foe the communist mayor, now senator, Peppone beset with new challenges to their respective worldviews. For Don Camillo it's church with no Latin Mass,no meatless Fridays and less vigorous anti-communism. For Peppone it's communism with long haired members, American culture worshipping youths and a confusing "peaceful co-existence" policy. For both of these old warhorses it's a world gone mad and one in which they occasionally find themselves, infuriatingly, in agreement. A wonderful book which will literally have you laughing out loud and the only book I ever read that had me nostalgic for the sixties. By the way, it's not necessary but it helps if you grew up Catholic to fully enjoy the quandries poor Don Camillo finds himself in with the "new" church.
