Although the author quotes from familiar magazine articles, the reader gets a fresh, very personal and intriguing look into Johnson's childhood, acting careerdozens of failed television pilots, early feature-film disastersand drug and drinking problems. Moreover, there is a history of the television show that made him famous, along with a segment on the work of producer Michael Mann. Johnson is portrayed as a sincere, warm, natural person who has not allowed his newfound (and long-awaited) fame to alter his personality, even if it has definitely changed his lifestyle.
