5.0 out of 5 stars I Love It...
this game is absolutely Beautiful...and not because of the Fighting alone..but because of the Excellently done Career Mode. it is simular to Def Jam Icon or the Superstar mode in Madden. it makes you WANTT to progress through the game just to see what happens next...as you choose rather to train or spend time doing various other recreational activites with other friends...

1.0 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE
don't waste your time, this game is beyond terrible, the worst boxing game that i have ever played, the controls only allow you to throw one swooping puncg at a time and when you are on the verge of a knockout theree is no difference between being at full health and about to go out, also when you get hit your boxer stumbles all over like every punch thrown is a super one...

4.0 out of 5 stars A pretty good boxing sim, June 17, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Don King Presents: Prize Fighter (Video Game)
Let me just say that I love boxing and am a sucker for any and all boxing games - from Mike Tyson Punch-Out (NES) to Evander Holifield "Real Deal" boxing which is probably my all-time favorite (Sega Genesis) to all of the Knockout Kings (PS1) to all of the Fight Nights - Round 2 was my favorite - (PS2/Xbox 360)to this game. When I opened it up, created my fighter, and "Rocky Balboa" lost his first 5 fights (in career) I was ready to put a spike through it. My review would have been much different. I gave it a chance and never looked back (and yes "Rocky" did become Heavyweight Champion of the World). I loved the game and the story (which is much better - surprising? - than Fight Night Round 3). I can't wait to create another fighter and start again.

Pros: Great story! You feel like you are in a move (a Rocky movie?) with live action video from your cut man, manager, promoter(s), as well as Don King himself.

Cons: Only 2 really: the graphics. Fight Night Round 3 definetely has better greaphics. The controls were different - although I got used to using the triggers to throw punches.

If you like boxing and boxing games you should pick this one up - especially at this price.

this game is absolutely Beautiful...and not because of the Fighting alone..but because of the Excellently done Career Mode. it is simular to Def Jam Icon or the Superstar mode in Madden. it makes you WANTT to progress through the game just to see what happens next...as you choose rather to train or spend time doing various other recreational activites with other friends or girlfriends...and the storyline really does keep you immersed in it...as becoming the champion is not the end of your journey. it really does feel like a Boxing Career.

as far as the Boxing itself, it flows Well. it can be somewhat Slow at times..but doesnt ruin the experience of the game much at all. once you find what punches work for you and start to put together combinations, they really do flow beautifully and do appropriate damage. this is in no way an Arcade boxing game, youv got to box strategicly if you want to win...as button mashing will get you KO'd. i play the game on the easiest mode, as i hate having to be beaten and repeat fights over and over..but there is still a relevant challenge from the cpu. the Knockouts are just as good as those seen in Fight Night 3..but the fighting is wayy more Fluent than fight nights. online is fun as well...theres no lagg or slowdown to speak of.

overall, pick up this game if you love boxing and love a good Storyline, you wont be dissapointed at all, i am glad i gave it a chance..

iLL .

4.0 out of 5 stars Better Than I Thought, January 31, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Don King Presents: Prize Fighter (Video Game)
I heard about this game and thought it was terrible until i played it myself. this game is on par with fight night round 3 and just as good as any Boxing game that has come out. you will get frustrated in the Beginning which probably is where most people are in there reviews this game really makes you "work" like if you do not block or are prepared to block you will be flat on your butt tapping the "A" button to get back up i find myself now realizing you just cannot button smash you really need to find openings to punish your opposition or you will be strategically picked apart like in a real boxing match i am sure after while you will perfect your strategy to win the matches but in the Beginning you will be pissed for taking the punishment that the "ai"dishes out . Graphics are VERY GOOD... great commentary on point and the game will be better with future releases and will challenge EAsports just like every other 2k product ever put out.pick this one since it is dirt cheap because of the Bad reviews.. and with some patience you will have a fun boxing experience and be pleasantly Suprised playing this pretty decent first run game by 2k sports.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bad gameplay KO's Prizefighter, June 23, 2008
By
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Don King Presents: Prize Fighter (Video Game)
Don King Presents Prizefighter is 2K's venture into the boxing genre. While they do several things right (a pretty cool story mode, nice roster of fighters, solid venues), the in-ring gameplay is what eventually kills this product right away.

The most obvious glitch is the collision detection. Sometimes punches completely miss yet cause damage, sometimes your arm goes through the other fighter, at times your elbow will hit them in the mouth instead of your fist, etc. It's just not very much fun. Button responsiveness is also a problem as it can take several seconds between pressing a button and seeing your punch thrown. It takes you right out of the game.

The stamina meter, which is a good idea and implemented well in Fight Night Round 3, evaporates in an extraordinary amount of time. After 3 or 4 punches, you'll find yourself slowly hobbling around the ring trying to re-gain stamina so you can throw another punch. If you attempt to throw a punch while your stamina is out, it'll feel like you're throwing it under water.

The sad part is, if the in-ring stuff was good, this would be a top contender in the genre. The story mode is unique and quite fun, the roster is well done with various fighters not seen in a boxing game yet, and the create-a-boxer is one of the most detailed I've ever seen.

Yet because the game itself isn't much fun, I can't recommend this for fight fans. Wait for Fight Night Round 4.

Picked this game up after playing Fight Night Champion for a few months, cant say this is better then fight night, the game is fun..the presentation is what really makes this game fun, the gameplay is sub-par but its still fairly fun and can be played through career mode with a meaning, all in all for under 10 bucks this is a good buy and even better buy if you're a boxing fan and like going round to round beating down opponents

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok game. Kind of fun, but could have been a lot more., November 21, 2011
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Don King Presents: Prize Fighter (Video Game)
The in ring gameplay is O.K., but once you figure it out the game is VERY easy. In my last 10 fights I never even got knocked down. Learn to block and dodge, then counter, and unleash when your opponent is out of stamina. That's how I beat every fighter. The special punches are pretty sick, and did save me a couple of times.

PROBLEMS:
Between each fight, you have to decide to train or do do some photo op and increase your media standing. If you boost your media ranking, you can get more money for your fights. Why?? Who cares? You can never DO anything with this money! Why not make available some kind of specialized training equipment that you can buy?? Or special training sessions to move up your stats quicker? Or a personal life aspect, where you can live large in a huge mansion and expensive cars as long as you keep winning? Lose a match and be forced to downgrade. ANYTHING to use some of the millions you are raking in. Those are just some quick ideas, but I chose training EVERY time over media boost, just because the money makes no difference. You will progress through the same game no matter what.

At one point one of the "plot twists" is that you have been out partying instead of training, and you have to fight a match with downgraded stats! B.S.!!!! I chose to train EVERY time. Why would I go through that plot point? It was forced on me.

The "documentary" scenes are badly encoded. On most of them the video does not match up to the audio. It's like watching a bad youtube encode.

The commentary from the announcers and trainers gets old REAL quick. There are probably 10 sound bytes total and they use them over and over in every fight.

Even with all these flaws, the game was fun and I was compelled to finish it. With a little more creative thinking and effort, this could have been THE boxing game. As is, for the ridicilous price you can get it for used, I'd say it's a solid buy.

This review is from: Don King Presents: Prize Fighter (Video Game)
This game came out in '08 or maybe '06. It is still a fun game for being older and the changes that have come out after all these years. It is not a game to compete with Fight Night, but it has it's own qualities. If you would rather use buttons instead of the joy sticks, this is a better option.

3.0 out of 5 stars If you are looking for arcade fun, dont bother, for the SUPER realistic fan, you might enjoy, January 12, 2009
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Don King Presents: Prize Fighter (Video Game)
I bought Prize fighter cause i am a huge boxing fan... well i thought i was... okay maybe i like the flash of the Roy Jones Juniors., the quick Ko's that Mike Tyson used to unleash, or the flamboyance of the Sugar Shanes and the Pretty Boy's offer us "unrealistic" fans out there... I say this because i did not enjoy this game. But in fairness it is a good "boxing" game. Just dont expect to jump out of your seat with a wicked KO or dance and taught your opponent as offered in the EA sports Round 3... its a good game for boxing fans, i learned today i am not a boxing fan at all...
