A TV Star And Rapper, Glover Also Proves To Be An Immensely Likable Comedian

"Community" star and rapper Childish Gambino's alter ego Donald Glover returns to his adopted city of New York for his first stand-up DVD special courtesy of Comedy Central. Shot before an enthusiastic crowd at Union Square Theater, Glover has such an easy and laid-back charm that it's hard not to instantly engage with his material. Glover has branded himself a "Weirdo" with the concert's title, but he is far from it. While some of his funniest bits play out absurdly, most of his stories and jokes are quite identifiable. Many tales from his childhood are both ridiculous AND universal, and you'll find yourself nodding knowingly and laughing at the same time.
Topics include the music world, foster care, appropriating language and a fateful trip to Home Depot. This is not a performance for Glover's typical television fans, this is an adult set with all the expected language and edgy source material. It's not the raciest set I've ever seen, but I thought I'd shout out to more sensitive viewers who might anticipate some extension of Community's Troy. Instead, this is Glover being Glover. And if this is any indication, I think we can expect to see big things from this talented performer.
In addition to the 65 minute concert performance, the DVD has a couple of nice bonus features for Glover fans. Originally from Atlanta, he does seem to love NYC. In the additional 40 minutes of extra features, we get a pretty engaging interview and a brief tour around the streets. These segments have their amusing moments, but they play out far more as personal extras that they do as comedic. I appreciated this added insight into the likable Glover! 4 to 4 1/2 Stars for the conert, I'll bump it up for the personal extras. KGHarris, 4/12.

I can't believe I'm only discovering Donald Glover. I watched this special 3 times in 2 days and laughed my butt off every time. My only complaint about this video is that it's over waaay too soon. His jokes are more like personal stories you're hearing from your funniest friend. This guy is just so damn likeable. Watch this!

Donald Glover is hands down my favorite comedian! It's very easy to relate to his jokes or just laugh regardless because he presents them so well! Yes this is "Troy" but no this is not the same "safe" comedy so be ready lol

Donald Glover/Childish Gambino is going to be huge!!! He is like our generations will smith but a much better rapper!! I have been following him since like 2008 when he was doing his sketches with Derrik Comedy on Youtube, then he started rapping and is phenomenal, I was just at one of his shows in Dallas Texas and the kid is pure entertainment he knows how to keep a crowd in at all times!! His stand up is the same way. He has a certain aspect that people just like him and he really hilarious!! Community is one of my favorite TV shows and the fact that he writes for 30 Rock says alot as well!!! He is the package deal and regardless of what you like the most comedy acting or rapping he will appeal to it!!

I saw this special on comedy central with one of my friends and we could not stop laughing!I would definitly reccomend if you need a good laugh *not for young kids*

I totally recommend this comedy special, but it is definitely intended for adults. Donald Glover seems to be creating a constant stream of high-quality comedy right now.

Donald Glover delivers
Great stand-up. Admittedly he may not be for everyone, I thought this guy was hilarious. My friends are all 20-something's and it was an instant hit. A really entertaining hour.
