[This 3-disc set is still available at this alternative product listing.]

The Donaueschinger Musiktage has been held annually since 1921 and is a showcase for the latest compositions from the avant-garde. The pieces are mainly commmissioned, and performed by the leading German and Austrian ensembles. The SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg is the "house band," and performs most of the orchestral works. For many years live recordings were released by the Col Legno label, but beginning with DM 2006 the new Neos label has taken up the task. For some reason this DM 2008 set was never made available as separate discs, as in other years, but only as a 3-disc set. Fortunately the music is mainly all of high quality.
