Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Originally banned in Mexico and slapped with a lawsuit in Spain, Molotov, a foul-mouthed rap en español group based in Mexico City, is as fired up as Rage Against the Machine on its debut. The album's title, which translates as "Where Will the Little Girls Play?" parodies ¿Dónde Jugaran los Niños? (Where Will the Children Play?), a 1992 album by Mana, one of rock en español's biggest acts. But that's just the beginning. Rapping in both Spanish and English, the band puts together an explosive blend of turntable scratches, thick bass lines, and flamenco guitar riffs. Initially misinterpreted as a slur against homosexuals, "Puto (Coward)" actually makes fun of anyone not willing to stand up for himself. With its chanted lyrics and anti-authority theme, "Gimme Tha Power" is an anthem for disenfranchised people everywhere. Think of Molotov's Dónde as Mexico City's answer to Public Enemy's It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. --Jeff Niesel

5.0 out of 5 stars Insuperable, June 12, 1998
This review is from: Donde Jugaran Las Ninas (Audio CD)

100% recomendado.

5.0 out of 5 stars Repulsive and shocking... I LOVE IT !, November 24, 1999
This review is from: Donde Jugaran Las Ninas (Audio CD)
This cd represents the anger of a younger, socially opressed generation screaming for justice and acceptance. The lyrics are a little rough but: the end justifies the means.

4.0 out of 5 stars Molotov finds the true meaning of rock, April 20, 2003

With its live-sounding performances, irreverent attitudes..., and kick-...rock, "Donde Jugaran" finds the rock spirit which sadly gets lost sometimes. Most of the disc is in Spanish, but there's enough English to figure out what most of the songs are about, and if you can understand Mexican curse words, you've got about 80% of the lyrical content. Fun album, starting with the album cover.
