However, you will get an image without much distortion, and with only a little less magnification, when you use a high-quality standard magnifier, such as the Bausch and Lomb 2X Folding Lighted Handheld Magnifier or the Bausch and Lomb 2X Rectangular Handheld Magnifier. All three of these magnifiers, the Donegan and the two from Bausch & Lomb, have acrylic lenses. These acrylic lenses should be cleaned only with a soft cloth or washed in warm soapy water and dried with a soft cloth. Chemical or abrasive cleaners should never be used.
The 2" x 4" viewing field for this magnifier is large enough to make it useful for reading. However, if you want a magnifier mostly for reading, then a non-aspheric lens is probably a more economical and better choice. If you need extra magnification for reading, or if you plan to use your magnifier to scrutinize small items like stamps or coins, then this Donegan Aspheric 3X Magnifier is an excellent choice: it is a beautiful optical instrument.
This product is mid-range -- works great for most single-collumn newspaper and magazine, particularly on columns less than about 2.5" wide; but is a bit shy of the wider size columns more frequently appearing now (>3".) All that being said, it sure is the clearest and best thing I've tried (in order to compensate for my age-degenerating eyseight.) And although the lens material is plastic rather than glass, I can see no difference in quality.
The problem here is that thhis Aspheric technology cost (for the 3x model) is an order of magnitude more expensive than the cheaper spheric ones. I 'm afraid to ask whether or not a larger version of the aspheric product is available, and whether it is at least cheaper than a Tesla or Fisker electric automobile.

When I got my first bifocal prescription, big eyeglasses were in. Having lots of lens real-estate to transition from distance to reading worked well for me. Read morePublished 3 months ago by tombrad
I don't like it. The curve of the lens distorts the image terribly. It also seems to pick up every reflection in the room. I tried to send it back but missed the deadline. Read morePublished 8 months ago by Stickman

One of the advantages of this magnifier is that it is supposed to have no distortion at the edges of the field. When I first used it, there was a lot of distortion! Read morePublished 10 months ago by George Barnard
