This review is from: Donizetti - Alahor in Granata / Alaimo · Pace · Genaux · Flórez · Pons (Audio CD)
Delightful, lively music, some borrowed from Elixir, Donizetti's best comedy IMHO. At one point I thought we were going to break into the Tell overture. There's plenty of coloratura episodes to show off the siingers skill, but not so much as to get tiring as does some of the Rossini operas. If you enjoy the Bel Canto style of opera this opera should please you. Rossini and Donizetti were the most prolific and popular composers of this genre of opera along with early Verdi. There are fun stories about the rivalry between these 2 composers.
I'm so glad for the revivals of these operas. |
