Being a person who is espcially fascinated by ottocento Italian opera, I have studied a lot about Verdi, Puccini, Rossini & wtc. Books about Donizetti are more difficult to come by and this one, found on a used book site, was quite pricey. It is, however, worth every penny. It s filled with information about operas I never heard of before and is very scholarly and well researched. I am reading it with great relish and it is now a prized posession in my library. A must-read for anyone who admires Donzetti.
