REALLY FUN GAME,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Donkey Kong (Game Cartridge)
I really liked this game. There are some hard levels, but some are real easy. It took me a long time to go all the way through the different cities. In the game, you are Mario, and you are chasing Donkey Kong, who has captured Pauline...I would recommend this to kids ages 7& up...fun game...

Must buy!,

I currently have Donkey Kong for Super Nintento and Nintendo 64 and they're both my favorite games for each system. When I got my Game Boy Color last month, this was the first game that I got. I played it all day, it was a blast! I had as much fun playing this game, as I do playing it on the other systems. It's definatley worth buying, especially since you can play it anywhere!

I recently bought a GBA, and i found my old gameboy games, one of which was Donkey kong, this has to be one of the best games every released fot th gameboy, the game is really long, the first time through some of the levels are hard to figure out, the second time through they are just as fun as the first time this game has immense replay value. the first four levels are straight out of the origonal, the only problem with this is that anyone that has beaten the game will know all of marios tricks, and they can make the first levels a little to easy to beat. anyone who likes clasic or puzzle games should buy this game, or find the copy you have in your closet and blow the dust off of it.

Yes, I am writing this review in 2011, and the game is quite old.
Yes, the graphics aged quite a bit. But but but... It's such a great game! It's much funnier than any of the more recent "Mario vs. Donkey Kong" The level design is simply amazing, extremely clever, specially toward the end. The game is so good that you quickly forget about the graphics. The gameplay also surprised me. I thought Super Mario 64 was revolutionary, but many of Mario's movements were actually already included in this game (like the triple jump). If you are a fan of retro games, or Mario (the 2D games), or Mario vs. Donkey Kong, then get this game and play it. I loved it from the beginning till the end. I don't often finish games but this one I did finish.

Highly Addictive,

Donkey Kong is a highly addictive game. Mario is the main hero, and unlike the other Donkey Kong games, Donkey Kong is the villan. It is a highly addictive game, and has a good plot. It get's very tricky at times but that makes it even more fun.

The sequel to the hit '80s arcade game,

Donkey Kong was originally an arcade game in the early '80s that Nintendo put out to gain exposure. It turned out to be a hit with gamers and it was soon ported to and was one of the launch titles for the NES in 1985. Nearly ten years later, Nintendo released the sequel to the hit '80s arcade game for the Game Boy. Simply titled "Donkey Kong", it was a runaway smash for Nintendo as it was a puzzle platform game with the original 4 levels from the arcade game plus 96 brand new levels exclusively made for it. It sold millions of copies and is a fun game that will take you hours and hours to complete.Donkey Kong sticks to the same story as in the arcade game: You control Mario who must navigate a maze avoiding traps and enemies in order to reach Pauline and rescue her from Donkey Kong. After you clear the original 4 levels, Donkey Kong kidnaps Pauline again and you chase after him through multiple worlds each with its own theme and levels. Now the main goal is to find a key in each level and use it to unlock the exit. To update the game and keep things fresh, Mario can use new moves, weapons and items to take out the enemies. He can even use ladders and flip switches to gain access to other areas of the levels. Once you finish a level or use all your lives, you are prompted to save your progress so you don't have to start over once you turn the game off. The PROS: This was a proper way to make a sequel to an arcade game that helped put Nintendo's name out there. Everything in the game worked and every aspect of it complimented each other. Playing through 100 different levels was impressive and it never felt repetitive. The new features that were never in the arcade game helped kept the game fresh even though the goal was always the same. On top of that, Donkey Kong was one of the first game to take advantage of the Super Game Boy peripheral that Nintendo released for the SNES (it played all original Game Boy games.) It did that by coming with additional colors and an exclusive border screen when you used the Super Game Boy to play the game and it looked fantastic. The CONS: None. Nintendo would continue to release similar games on their other portable systems as it proved to be successful with critics and gamers alike. If you like puzzle games and/or are a fan of the original arcade game, you had to pick this up. If you haven't played it, it is worth searching for a copy so do it as soon as possible.

Remember back in the arcades when Donkey Kong was an incredible hit? And then every game system back then got their own version of the game? Well it has been 13 years after the arcade game's release, and Nintendo was developing a new version of the game for Game Boy. At first glance you'd probably think: "Donkey Kong's already been released on several classic consoles already. So what's the point this one?" But if you look at the game itself, you'd go buy it already.
Donkey Kong has 3 save files. When you start the game, you get to play through the 4 levels of the arcade game. But after beating Donkey Kong in the level with the disappearing yellow platforms, you saved Pauline, right? WRONG! When I saw DK get back up, capture Pauline, and run, I was amazed, and my mouth dropped. Mario was running after the big age. And now the real game starts. The main gameplay has Mario go fetch a key and then use the key to open up a locked door to move on. The levels are clever, fun to play, and just downright cool. In fact, Mario can use acrobatic skills to help him through the levels. He can somersault, flip, and perform handstand jumps. Later, Donkey Kong Jr. comes into the scene and helps out his daddy. The graphics are great, especially when played on the Super Game Boy. With the Super Game Boy, there's a border around the game that makes it look like it's on a Donkey Kong arcade machine. The graphics also shine during the final boss: Giant DK. He looks very cartoonish, but that is how the game is supposed to be: Cartoony and fun. Exercising, somersaulting Mario vs a huge King Kong-sized DK on top of a big building! The music and sounds are also very good. The tunes are memorable and who doesn't love the sound of collecting 1ups? Overall, this game is truly amazing and it's also one of the Game Boy's best.

When I say the best classic DK game, I mean the 80s style. I don't want to include the Donkey Kong Country series because while it's an awesome series, it's a different type of game. This is a thousand times better than Donkey Kong. It has all the original levels (and this is just the introduction). After completing those you begin to go through several world with 6-9 levels in each one. Plus you have boss battles that sometimes take up several screens (scrolling). This game is sure to please all the old-school gamers and some new players.

This is one game everyone should try. Inspired by the original 1981 arcade game,Donkey Kong expands on the original game by adding more moves, better graphics, more enemies, levels and overall fun! This game alone helped inspire the creation of the Mario vs Donkey Kong series. It is great for Mario fans and gamers alike. I would recommend this game to anyone with a GameBoy or GameBoy game compatible handheld.
