DONKEY KONG LAND. The adaption of the original couldn't be better. This action-packed game takes you through four worlds: Jungle, Water, Cave and City, each filled with funner-than-fun levels filled with bad guys, bonus levels, and more! The exciting cast includes Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, and King K. Rool! Take my advice and buy this on the spot. It's rare, so if you find it somewhere, then it's your lucky day.

Classic Gameplay, January 9, 2000

A solid side-scroller on par with Super Mario Land 2, Donkey Kong Land delivers a great game with great graphics. And unlike DKL 2, which is just a direct port of Donkey Kong Country 2 for the Super NES, the levels in DKL are completely original.

Donkey Kong Land: The Main Game, February 2, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Donkey Kong Land (Game Cartridge)
If you want maximum fun, maximum graphics, and probably the best Game Boy Game ever made, Donkey Kong Land is exactly what you're looking for. With a strange but fun storyline, our two heroes: Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong start out in the Jungle, which is probably is the funnest type of level in the game. Kicking Marios' butt, Donkey Kong can save three files, has four worlds with about fifteen to twenty action-packed levels, and a worthy boss at the end of each world. (Including King K. Rool) I played it, I loved it, and I'll play it again and again for as long as I can.

Donkey Kong -- New and improved, February 25, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Donkey Kong Land (Game Cartridge)
Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong are back in an exciting, new game featuring new enemies, secret passageways, and new places to journey through, such as the jungle, the mountains, a temple, underwater, or aboard an abandoned pirate ship. In this adventure, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong are going on a journey with many different and unique levels and worlds. You may even need to use your enemies to pass some levels, but watch out! Other enemies may seemingly "pop" out of nowhere! You start out with five lives for each level, but if you are cunning, clever, and keen, you will aquire bananas along the trail. If you aquire one hundred bananas, you earn an extra life. But be careful. You may have to be aware of any enemies near the bananas. Some of them seem like traps. I strongly suggest purchasing this new, exciting, fun game for GameBoy and GameBoy Color.

A Kid's Review
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Donkey Kong Land (Game Cartridge)
Ya like the game is the best It can get just like Sonic. Donkey Kong Land is so awesome it is definetly on my top 5 list in my book. DK Land 2 is not as good the characters stink I wish every game could have DK. DK Land 2 has Diddy & Dixie Kong. 3 has Dixie & Dinky Kong. so this is the best DK Land game and makes most sense. But DK DK DK DK 4 DK's thats why I call it DK Land. If you like games or easy stuff buy this it works in any Game Boy System accept Micro and Nintendo DS And Lite. I rate it 10,000 out of 10,000. I would always recommend this game to any one who needs games 6+ K-A can play K-A means Kids-Adults. 6+ will have a great time playing it. If you want to watch it being played go to google.com and goto Video.

I think this is the best DKL game ever made. It can be hard to see at times (Or just plain HARD!), but it's still a good, fun game to play. I totally support that other guy's suggestion that there should be a GBA/DS remake.

An Original GB DK, November 20, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Donkey Kong Land (Game Cartridge)
This is about what you can expect from portable Donkey Kong game. It is dumbed down compared to SNES titles. Gameplay is pretty good, but not as impressive as DK Land 2. Graphics never impressed me, but aren't bad either. Sound is pretty decent though. Overall not a bad buy, but one of the weakest links in the franchise.

this is s great game if you like adventure games! There are tons of levels and the graphics sre great considering its a game boy game. You won't get bored quickly like a lot of games. There are a lot of different kinds of levels, so the game isn't too repetitive. If you like the donkey kong country games for the SNES or any other good side- scrolling adventure game you will love this game!

Amazing handheld title, March 16, 2011

In a world where there were CDs, companies like Sega and 3DO had tried to capitalize on the concept of playing video games on a CD, giving the games enhanced graphics and sound. There is one company, however, named Nintendo, and it created Donkey Kong Country. Donkey Kong Country was a game that proved that you don't need CD-based technology to make games with flashy graphics. You just need to put in effort to fit it to your console. How will that work on 8-Bit systems, though?
Fans often overlook this as a remake of Donkey Kong Country. Unfortunately for them, they are missing out, as this is actually a sequel. The gameplay and graphics are the same as the SNES game, but the levels and worlds are different. Is the story the same? No. In fact, the story is about, according the manual, DKC's success. Cranky Kong claims that the game only sold well because of the game's "fancy graphics" and that "kids would buy anything these days". A funny story to a satisfying game.
Actually, the graphics are eye-popping on the old-school Game Boy. Even if the characters blend in the backgrounds a little, playing the game on a Game Boy Color or Advance helps them stand out better.
The sounds and music were memorable. You can never go wrong with the sweet beats of Kongo Jungle. Now that it's composed in 8-Bit, it would appeal to NES fans as well.
The game is one of those games that show the characters on a map before actually going into the levels. Once you go to a level, you're gonna be expecting barrel-blasting, Kremling-smashing, animal-romping fun! As a platformer, it doesn't disappoint with its gameplay. You can even ride atop an Animal Buddy, like a rhino or an ostrich. Rhinos can knock everybody out of its way, while the Ostrich guides you safely across the level, though it also kills enemies. It can also float in the air like Racoon Mario in Super Mario Bros 3.
One thing I gotta point out is that there is no Candy's Save Point in this game. Instead, you'd be able to save your progress by collecting the K-O-N-G letters in a level.
The whole game is just a lot of fun, and I'd continue playing it ever after beating it.
Overall, this is a really great Game Boy game. You should get it for any Game Boy system you have.
