2.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat of a letdown :(, May 12, 2005
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Donkey Konga 2 (Video Game)
Unfortunately, this game does not live up to the original. The original game featured well known songs that were reimagined to fit in well with the drums. There were few songs that I didn't like and have fun playing with.

The tracks on the sequel are unimaginative and bland. They all sound the same. It's about impossible to discern what song it is in song selection mode if you don't know it from the song title because the introductions to all the songs sound the same.

In the original game, the songs were a bit different than the original including original vocal stylings and the music was arranged to sound cool accompanied by bongos. The new songs are just standard arrangements with substandard vocalists.

On a positive note, the mini games are much improved and more fun to play.

4.0 out of 5 stars Even Mediocre Music Couldn't Keep It Down, July 20, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Donkey Konga 2 (Video Game)
Basically the music in this is no better than your average blend of a 6 month late Now compilation, however the gameplay is so incredibly addictive and fun that it's pretty easy to forgive it. If you give in to the fact that really dorky bad song can be fun and goofy to play if you don't take it too seriously(example: Smash Mouth's "All-Star"), then it's a blast. This is Donkey Konga, not Guitar Hero. It's best when played with friends in my opinion, but it has it's moments on those lonely days as well. I cannot forgive it for not having a few Nintendo classics on it like the last one did though. Not even a reworking of the "DK Rap," quite possibly the best song to ever hit the DK universe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Donkey Konga Is Golden!!!, May 17, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

This review is from: Donkey Konga 2 (Video Game)
Sadly Donkey Konga 2 was way ahead of its time. I remember hearing about this game back when the first one came out, and thinking it was a strange idea. Kongas as controllers didn't make any sense. Where were the arrows? Where were my A and B buttons?
The idea, although great, didn't really catch on and this gem slid into the realm of the forgotten video games.
When Guitar Hero came out everyone flocked to purchase it, but no one realized that donkey konga was the exact same thing, and possibly more fun.

the 2-4 game play is better that most games, most defiantly more enjoyable than any guitar game. the notes are on barrels rolling across the screen from right to left. you ether hit the left or right bongo, or both, or clap to earn points and eventually be crowned donkey konga king. There are freestyle modes, and minigames, and new songs can be earned and unlocked through the in game store.

You use the konga controllers to play along with popular songs from video games, and in the case of number 2, pop songs from the late 90's early 00's. If the series had continued the songs would have continued to be updated and the game would have stayed upbeat, but as it is several years old now you may not recognize some of the songs on this title.

One player mode can get boring fast, so I would suggest starting with 2 bongos. the more players you have the fore fun this game becomes. Even the smallest child will enjoy this one. At one point during a family get together we had the full 4 players clapping and smacking the bongos in time to a uptempo classical melody and the fun and energy was so great that most of my family went home and purchased this game for their own families.

In conclusion, BUY THIS GAME!!! You will not regret it.
