They look like a pair of bongos. They only have one button on them, that acts as a pause or start button. They can sense clapping - and they are great fun!
I admit that I held off on buying the bongos for quite a while. They looked silly. They looked like a 6 year old might have fun banging on them for a few minutes, and then they'd get tossed into the reject toy pile, never to be touched again. But finally when a few games were out that used the bongos, I weakened and got us a set to play with. We got them with Donkey Konga 2, which is a great game that has a nice variety of songs. That really is the key, of course. If you get a controller and there aren't any good games to go with it, the controller isn't much good. But if you have a great game and the perfect controller for it, you can have gaming fun for months and months. The bongos let you do four different things in essence. You can hit the left bongo, hit the right bongo, hit both together, or clap. In beginning songs this is pretty straightforward. Hit. Hit. Clap. But as you get into the more advanced songs, it is truly tricky and even the most advanced drummers will have trouble keeping up. The syncopation and rhythm intricacies are really pretty amazing. The bongos are rather good on sensitivity. The aim is not to whallop them madly. You have to hit them perfectly in time, and a light tap is better for control. The audio sensor for the clapping did a really good job of sensing that well. You need to keep in mind that these bongos don't have "buttons". You can't use the bongos to play other games. They will only really work with the rhythm games that are made to go with them. And you don't NEED the bongos - you could always use a regular controller and hit the buttons in time with the songs. But I really do have to say, using the bongos is great fun and great practice. Most of us grow up air drumming, drumming on our steering wheel as we drive, drumming with pencils on desks. We like the sense of rhythm. The bongos give you a fun way to develop this sense. And since they look and act just like real bongos, if you have any sort of drumming interests in your future, this is a perfect way to practice up. Well recommended!

This games is so great! The bongos add to the fun. Even though you can play the game Donkey Konga with a regular controller, it wouldn't be nearly as fun without the bongos. The bongos are very durable, and you can adjust the sensitivity of them. The only thing that may cause a problem is when playing with a group of people, your bongo may register someone elses clap and interfere with your turn. But, adjusting the sensitivity should correct the problem. If you are interested in music, this game will definitely help with keeping up with beats, weather the notes are half notes or whole notes, you will learn how to play them. Future games like Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (which is an adventure game)will also use the bongos. I highly recommend this toy. It will bring family and friends together.

It really was surprising to me, but I honestly thought that the bongo controllers for the Nintendo Gamecube was a gimmick. I honestly thought that they wouldn't get very far, after the first Donkey Konga game, but I was actually wrong. When I tried these for Donkey Kong Jungle Beat in Toys R' Us, I was absolutely amazed at how simple and easy to use these drums really were. They truly are very easy to operate with, and work like a charm. Yet, this is truly the only way to play Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. You can't play it with the regular controller. Get these and beat the night away.

the bongos that go with DK Konga are fun. I admit I worry sometimes that I might hit them to hard, they are plastic. The $$ tag is a little steep. but I paied simalar prices for the wireless controler... Only think that could make it a little better is a handle for carrying.

My older kids think it is great (so do my husband & I, especially with lots of 'classic' 80's songs to have fun with) and my toddler loves the free-style version where she can smack the bongos to her heart's content (very sturdy with little hands). A must-have for any gamer!!!

I am currently living in Japan and have been playing this game for quite awhile. It is a blast to play, alone or with friends. I can not wait to play the american version. Definately get the bongos, they make the game that much better. Also if you enjoy this type of game, later this year they are releasing a taiko (japanese) drum game on the PS2 that is just as much fun as donkey konga.

This is not one of those reviews where I say Wow this game looks fun. I have actually played Donkey Konga (The demo) and it is absoloutely awesome. Hitting the bongos just doesn't get old. You should buy this extra set of Konga Bongos so you can rage war with your friends siblings parfents grandparents pr whoever. The game is seriously fun enought to play with a parent and you can't do that without some extra bongos. Remember I have played the game and I know what I'm talking about. Expect great things out of Donkey Konga.

No doubt if you are looking at this, you know what Donkey Konga is. Then you'll also know how much fun it is. I have the Japanese versions of this game (There is the first and a sequel) and my friends are stuck playing with the controllers while I play with the bongos (Or 'Tarukonga' in Japanese). Basically, if you are going to buy Donkey Konga, you are going to need to buy a second pair of drums AT LEAST, because anyone, and I mean ANYONE, who sees you playing is going to want to play too.

I never played any of the games that use the DK bongos during the GameCube era, but recently I picked up a set of 4 of these along with all 3 DK Bongo games from a local seller. I bought 4 extension cables for these so we could sit farther back from the TV.Gameplay: For DK Jungle Beat- 1-2 players, for Donkey Konga 1 & 2, 1-4 players. In Donkey Kongas, it plays out similar to guitar hero. You have a music bar by each character and notes from a song stream from right to left. When the notes get to the target area, you hit that note on the Bongos. The notes are Yellow & Red (for Left and Right Bongo notes), Purple (both Left and Right simultaneously) and a symbol for clap. The center of the bongos has a microphone that picks up the clap. There are lots of game modes in the Kongas games and they are great for 2-4 players. For DK Jungle Beat, you control DK through levels using the bongos to move left and right, jump, and smack the baddies. It is listed as a 1-player game but we found if 2 sets of bongos are hooked up, both players can control him. DK Jungle Beat is a great 1-player game. Conclusion: Even though these bongos are only for 3 games, they are still loads of fun and worth picking up. All the games will work on the Wii as well as the Bongos. The bongos are well made and I haven't had any problems with them and I bought them all used. I like that they have a 1-player game (DK Jungle Beat) and two multiplayer games (Kongas).
