4 of 4 people found the following review helpful By Katherine Burkholder on May 20, 2010
Format: Paperback
This is by far one of the most creative books I have read in a long time. So much so that, while the book is certainly for children, I daresay that it may have been as much for adults as it is for their kids. The author takes eight different stories that include animals in the Bible, and then tells the stories from the perspective of the animals. The idea of this alone is enough to make you want to read it. Some of the stories are lighthearted and funny, while others are quite provocative. I don't want to give anything away but some of may favorites include a melancholic story about a spider who has fallen in love with a certain giant slayer, and a pride of lions whose reasons for not eating Daniel puts this tale in the category of a modern political fable.

This book may not be for everyone, but everyone should give it a read. It is definitely accessible for young children, but it may be the case that, for a few of the stories, only an adult will come away with what the author intended (sort of like how kids like The Simpsons even though much of the humor is lost on them). For that reason alone, this makes it a good buy because all ages can enjoy it, but for different reasons.

Kudos to this wonderful little book!! It is so incredibly imaginative. The voices he gives to these creatures goes beyond making them simply sentimental; he gives each animal their own way of seeing things in an effort to re-tell popular biblical stories in a way rarely imagined. These eight separate tales (some of which are interconnected) will open your eyes to a new way of seeing some old stories. The writing is eloquent and the artwork is beautiful. It's such a cool little book.

This is a very witty and thought-provoking book, yet still easy to read. The combination of philosophy and theology with fictional stories from the perspective of animals is very creative. I definitely recommend this book.
