Now here's a nicely-priced "sampler" disc or handy Christmas stocking-stuffer! Fans of THE DONNA REED SHOW will love the four choice episodes spotlighted on this "Family Favourites" DVD.

THE DONNA REED SHOW ran between 1958-1966 on ABC, starring Donna Reed as the ultimate embodiment of the "perfect American housewife", Donna Stone. Donna is the wife of successful pediatrician Dr. Alex Stone (Carl Betz), and the loving mother of Jeff (Paul Petersen) and Mary (Shelley Fabares). THE DONNA REED SHOW was an unqualified ratings smash for the network. Other stations tried to topple it (most notably CBS with "The Betty Hutton Show" in 1959), but the winning formula of no-nonsense Donna and her charming adventures couldn't have been bettered. The show also provided the ideal launch pad for future "teen idols" Petersen and Fabares.

Episodes:

"Pardon My Gloves" (Season One, Episode #2) - Donna has been cast in a local production of "A Doll's House", but advanced word of her stinky performance causes Jeff to get into fist-fights with the son of a rival actress.

"The Baby Contest" (Season One, Episode #11) - The Stone family is bombarded with bribes from anxious mothers, when Alex is announced as the judge of a baby contest.

"All Mothers Worry" (Season Two, Episode #10) - Donna and Jeff have their work cut out for them, when they try to free one of Jeff's friends from his overprotective mother's grip. Guest-stars players from the Los Angeles Rams, plus William Schallert from "The Patty Duke Show".

"How the Other Side Lives" (Season Three, Episode #5) - Mary delights in spending a weekend with her rich friend Ginny (Reba Waters), but is less than thrilled when Donna arranges for Ginny to return the favour.

There are no special features, however English subtitles are included for the hard of hearing (something you don't always get on these kinds of DVDs!). Virgil Films has also released the first three seasons of THE DONNA REED SHOW in their entirety, so if you love what's on this DVD, chances are that you'll eventually get the complete sets.
