About the Author

Terrence N. Tullgren is an independent author, designer, producer and artist who resides in Miami, Florida. As a proud great uncle of an autistic child, he spent years researching and creating Donnie Makes New Friends. Tullgren was touched by his great nephew’s talents and aspires to help the world better understand autism and its complexity. Tullgren was also astounded by the film Temple Grandin, about a person with high-functioning autism who succeeded in becoming a doctor of animal science and a professor at Colorado State University. Mimicking animal behavior and sounds helped Grandin connect with both animals and humans, which later helped her accomplish her professional and personal goals. Inspired by people with autism, Tullgren created this exclusive coloring book for children and families to help them understand and appreciate similarities and differences among us, and to provide a gentle way to teach the essential behaviors needed to make new friends.

I live in Switzerland and was looking for a children's book like this! The book is really special and you don't even have to know English to understand the message conveyed in this unique book for young children. The illustrations are stunning and self-explanatory. The option one has to color in the drawings is a bonus.

This book outlines an easy and creative way for children to make friends. An excellent resource for parents and teachers of autistic children as well as children who are just shy. Interacting with animals is fun and non-threatening and makes every kid want to give socialization a whirl. Beautiful illustrations. This book speaks to everyone.

With so much online contact we forget how to actually interact in a person to person situation. Hooray for pulling us out from behind our monitors for a breath of fresh air!!!!!

This book by Terrence Tullgren is beautifully sensitive and a wonderful teaching tool. He addresses issues for children who have difficulty with basic human interaction in a positive and inspiring way. With opportunities for both reading and coloring, he provides various ways children can connect with this book, the characters and the story. This is a great gift for ANY child. In this world of social media, where people hardly understand one to one interaction, this book helps to shape a child's understanding of others. How incredible!

This children's book is a great start for the author. I look forward to more books and so does my son to whom I read every night. He now looks my adult friends in the eye. Wonderful.
