Donny Osmond Live - A true American Idol, September 1, 2004
I have owned this DVD for quite some time now. I could not wait for this US release to watch Donny in concert. I was able to see the very first shows of this tour and this DVD is of the last concert at the Hammersmith Apollo in London. All of the excitement is there from the beginning notes of "Could it be I'm Falling in Love?" to the end of "Never Gonna Say Goodbye."
If you haven't been able to see Donny in concert in recent years due to no nearby shows, this DVD is for you. It's the next best thing to being there. For those of us who loved Donny as a young teenager, fall in love all over again. For those of you too young to know Donny's music, here is a chance to see why your mother goes crazy for Donny and hear "Too Young" performed.
Many of the songs performed are from Donny's "Somewhere in Time" CD, such as "All Out of Love", "I Can't Go For That", "Don't Dream It's Over", "I'm Not In Love", "Would I Lie To You", "I Wish", and the remake of the 70s hit Donny had with his brothers "Crazy Horses." Donny's dance moves are shown in the upbeat numbers and his awesome vocals in the ballads. Donny loves playing with the audience as is demonstrated by his teasing the audience with a LONG PAUSE during "Would I Lie to You?"
Songs from Donny's "This is the Moment" CD include "This is the Moment", "Seasons of Love", "Luck Be A Lady Tonight", "Not While I'm Around", and "Immortality." Donny has an amazing voice which "This is the Moment" and "Immortality" both showcase.
Donny dons his coat of many colors from "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" to sing "Any Dream Will Do." The audience joins in and an old-fashioned sing-a-long begins.
Donny also takes us back in time with "Go Away Little Girl" being sung as a duet with himself 30 years earlier. In an unplugged section, "Too Young", "Young Love", "Twelfth of Never", and "Love Me For A Reason" are sung to and with the audience. Donny's interaction with his fans on-stage as well as off is one of his most admirable traits.
For those who haven't kept up with what Donny has been doing lately, there is a very nice documentary. Not only does Donny show his lovely wife Debbie, but also their son Don, Jr. Donny's humor comes out in the interview and his interaction with fans, family, and band.
Also included is a photo slideshow. These show how Donny has aged gracefully and how sexy he still is.
Newer artists might want to buy this DVD for themselves and take a few lessons from "American Idol" Donny Osmond, who has been performing for over 40 years and can still make the women swoon.

GREAT FIRST SOLO DVD!!!, November 29, 2004
I have waited a long time for this DVD to come along. I just received my DVD from Amazon.com today and I truly enjoyed the concert. Donny sounds just as good, if not better than before. His showmanship is more mature and with this DVD, one can see that Donny's talent is timeless. Congratulations Donny for a great concert and thank you!

You must see it to believe how good it is, August 24, 2004
I have had this dvd in UK release format for nearly a year. It includes the last show of Donny's 2003 tour in support of the platinum selling cd Somewhere in Time. Donny performs the familiar hits, and material from his two most recent cds. If you have not seen or heard Donny perform since the Donny and Marie show days, I urge you to check this out. Among Donny's musical influences are Stevie Wonder, Eddie Kendricks and other Motown/TSOP artists. His voice has always has a smooth soulful sound. The material performed in these concerts demonstrates his talent and range.
What is most striking, even to me, is the comfort and ease with which he performs now. The musicians with which he travels are equally capable and they form a tight ensemble playing off each other in an entertaining fashion. He shows great charisma and stage presence, which translates even through this medium. When I showed this to friends who were not enamored with Donny Osmond in the past, I directed them to the selections-"Would I Lie to You?" and "I Wish". They were, appropriately, blown away. I think you will be surprised as well. The tour sold well all over the UK, and the audiences were obviously entertained.
Also included is a behind-the scenes documentary which gives you a glimpse into the mindset of the artist, returning to England 30 years after the height of Osmondmania. It may help you understand who he is today and the things he has experienced.
Of course those of us who have been down the road and followed the Osmonds' career will love hearing the familiar songs, stripped down and without quite so much hysteria. A lovely package...
