5.0 out of 5 stars The Donovan Legacy
I had read the Nora Roberts novel "Entranced" several years ago and always wanted to read the books for the other two Donovan cousins, but never got around to it. A few months ago I picked up this book (which has all three novels in it) and read straight through the entire thing in a few days!

The three stories are "Captivated," "Entranced," and "Charmed."...

3.0 out of 5 stars Too smooth
Loved the magic but everything just went to smooth. Roberts usually has a bit more twists but i guess since it was a 3fer they had to fall in love fast.

I had read the Nora Roberts novel "Entranced" several years ago and always wanted to read the books for the other two Donovan cousins, but never got around to it. A few months ago I picked up this book (which has all three novels in it) and read straight through the entire thing in a few days!

The three stories are "Captivated," "Entranced," and "Charmed."

"Captivated" centers around the first Donovan cousin, Morgana. She is a witch who runs a wiccan type store in Monterey. Nash is a novelist who specializes in horror stories (like Steven King I guess) and he is planning to write a novel about witches, so he comes to meet Morgana since she is infamous in the area for being a witch. At first he doesn't believe her powers are real, but as the two continue getting to know each other and fall in love, he begins to believe. I love both the characters, Nash and Morgana. They are extremely well written and fun, I quickly became attached to them. Their story was fast-paced and easy to read, I found it thoroughly enjoyable!

"Entranced" is about the only male Donovan cousin, Sebastian. He has psychic powers and often uses them to help the police when they are stuck on a case. Mel is a private investigator searching for the kidnapped baby of one of her friends. She doesn't want Sebastian's help, but the distraught mother called him anyways. The two of them go on an intriguing journey to find the lost child, and in the process (of course) fall in love! This was my favorite of the three stories - I really became fond of Mel especially. Probably because she reminds me a lot of Eve Dallas, the main character of Nora Roberts' (aka J.D. Robb's) "In Death" novels. Again, the characters are fun, sympathic and enjoyable to read about. This book is more of an adventure than the other two, which made it all the more enjoyable to read. I've read it half a dozen times and I STILL love it. :)

"Charmed" is about the final Donovan cousin, Anastasia. Her extraordinary powers specialize in the healing arts. A widowed (I think, I can't remember) father, Boone, moves in next door to her with his young daughter, Jessie. Ana and Jessie get along extremely well and because of this Ana and Boone end up spending a lot of time together and fall in love. The big problem is, Boone doesn't know Anastasia has magical powers which ends up causing a rift between them when he finds out. Honestly, I thought this was the weakest of the three stories. It wasn't as interesting as the first two and while it was still good, it had the potential to be so much better. Even so, I really enjoyed the characters, especially Jessie who definitely stole the story.

All three books are fun, I really enjoy Nora Roberts trilogies. I get really attached to characters, so seeing them again in a new book is such a fun experience! I highly recommend this set, any Nora Roberts fan will enjoy these books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Charming, March 29, 2000

I didn't think I would like this book when I picked it up and realized the main characters were witches. I have never been interested in the supernatural or the occult or anything of the sort. Imagine my surprise when I persevered and ended up enjoying the books very much! The first book, Morgana's story, was the weakest of the three. Her gift is one of magic and her "tricks" seemed very stereotypical things to write of. She was likeable enough but the story itself didn't grab me. Then I got to Sebastian's story, and I was really hooked! His gift is of sight, and he uses this gift to help recover a kidnapped baby. His relationship with Mel was realistic, their dialogue snappy and amusing, and it was just all-around entertaining to read. The last book, about Anastasia, was also a winner. Her gift of empathy makes her compassionate and strong yet extremely vulnerable at the same time, and her relationship with the unfortunately-named Boone was nicely developed (although at times it was less-developed than the relationship between Ana and Boone's daughter, Jessie). The best-written relationship at all, of course, is that of the three cousins themselves. They may be only children but they act like triplets. I would definitely recommend this book to others, even if you think the witchcraft aspect is not for you. I didn't think it was for me either, but Morgana, Sebastian, and Ana were almost as normal as the people next door.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bewitching =), September 12, 2000
This review is from: The Donovan Legacy: Captivated/ Entranced/ Charmed (Paperback)
First off, let me state that I was skeptical going into this. I'm more of a Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and old V.C. Andrews sort of fan. When a friend gave me this book and told me to read it, I had no idea I'd be searching out more Nora Roberts books to read!

I was spellbound from beginning of the first story. Knowing a lot about new age subjects, I found that the author used some realistic traits of Wicca and added humorous and fantastic aspects for entertainment value. The book was completely positive and as someone who has been involved in the Pagan community in the past, I can say that the witchy antics, though a bit "out there" (hey it's not meant to be non-fiction!), were done in good heart and harmed none. In fact, it even portrays Pagans in a positive light!! How open minded Nora Roberts must be! It is difficult to find that when reading a book with such subjects involved.

All three stories are magnificently beautiful and will leave you wanting to visit the Donovan castle yourself.

Go, get it now! =)

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Magical, September 15, 2000
This review is from: The Donovan Legacy: Captivated/ Entranced/ Charmed (Paperback)
I love it when Nora Roberts departs from serious mystery or romance to write fantasy. I thoroughly enjoyed all the stories of the Donovan Legacy. All the cousins were each great characters that Roberts develops into intriguing personalities with talents, loves and their own brand of magic. Roberts other books, Enchanted, Tears of the Moon, Jewels of the Sun are similar if you liked this book you will love them too. People watch TV to escape, I don't find TV an escape since it deals too much with our reality. These stories are truly escape since they are fantasy and lovely magical stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Donovan Legacy, November 1, 2001
This review is from: The Donovan Legacy: Captivated/ Entranced/ Charmed (Paperback)
I am a long time reader of Nora Roberts. So far, every book that I have read by Nora Roberts I just loved and I could not put it down.
I just got finished with this book. I loved it!! I could not put it down even though I had other things that where time important.
This book is about a family who happen to be all witches. There are three books in one so to speak so you get to read about three wonderful loves and their lives, through all the good times along with the bad. These three books go in order and you don't want to read them out of order or you will spoil all of the fun.
These cousins are great friends and they each have a special 'talent' that helps and forms their character through out all three books.
You will soon find out how much family means to the cousins and how they stick together no matter what, the witches will hang people from the ceiling, read peoples minds, and save lives all within these books. This is one book is one that you will not want to miss and you will not be able to put down till you finish it. Enjoy this book...I know you will because I loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's magic!, June 29, 2000
This review is from: The Donovan Legacy: Captivated/ Entranced/ Charmed (Paperback)
Another winner! Nora Roberts is excellent! This book has 3 stories (Captivated, Entranced & Charmed) of 3 cousins with supernatural powers inherited from their Celtic ancestors. Each cousin has different capabilities (ie. witch, psychic and healer). The Donovan Legacy continues with Enchanted, which is the 4th book in the Donovan series. If you love a touch of magic, you'd love the Donovan series!

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this author!, December 7, 1999
This review is from: The Donovan Legacy: Captivated/ Entranced/ Charmed (Paperback)
I pre-ordered the book without even knowing a whole lot about it other than Nora Roberts wrote it. It was a great story. I laughed, cried and was in a hurry to see how it ended. I was also reluctant to finish it, as the next one isn't out yet. A great read, you won't be wasting your time on any of her books!

If your looking to be spellbound, then look no further. If these characters can't entrance you then nothing can. When I picked up this book and started reading it was nothing like I thought it would be. I was definitly looking to be entertained, but I wasn't expecting to be so caught up that I didn't want to put the book down. If you love Nora Roberts, you'll love this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Three Great Books in One!, December 6, 1999

This review is from: The Donovan Legacy: Captivated/ Entranced/ Charmed (Paperback)
I am an avid Nora Roberts fan and have read most all of her books. This one will not disappoint. The subject matter is unique and interesting. The added bonus is that you get all three of the books in one! Ms. Roberts develops her characters and story line quickly, which is especially helpful in her shorter novels. I also like the fact that all of the characters are interwoven in each of the three books so that each story "continues" along in the other. Her research appears well done on most all subjects she undertakes and I particularly like her stories that center around Ireland and characters of Irish descent! Well done, again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Magic of Romance, January 4, 2000
This review is from: The Donovan Legacy: Captivated/ Entranced/ Charmed (Paperback)
These three delightful stories take away the pointy hats, warts and broomsticks and leave us with three charmers who could be living right on your street. She gives us characters we can believe in, who show us that we can not only accept but find joy in our differences. Nora Roberts has tackled off-beat subjects before and once again she has taken the extraordinary and given it a face and a heart and made it as believable as the nut next-door. It is always a treat to read and re-read these stories and I eagerly await the next chapter in the Donovan family saga.
