Book Description

Donovans of the Delta Series, Book One (Special Holiday Price)

When Martie Fleming breezed into small town Pontotoc, Mississippi, determined to settle down and teach jazzercise in her home studio, she never expected to land next door to the minister. She never expected her playful golden retriever to steal his shorts right off the clothes line. And she certainly never expected to fall in love.

Everybody in town would agree they are so wrong for each other - everybody but Paul Donovan. With her gypsy outfits, her lively music and her irrepressible spirit, Martie is exactly the angel the preacher needs. But can he convince her? Can their love and his career survive the small town gossip and the fireworks Martie creates wherever she goes?

This is the first of a 5-book romantic comedy series originally published by Loveswept - Donovan's Angel (1), Sleepless Nights (2), Hallie's Destiny (3), Any Thursday (4), and Higher Than Eagles (5).

Editorial Reviews

"A vagabond musician decides to settle down in a small town and promptly falls in love with her next door neighbor. To her dismay, he turns out to be the local minister. Ms. Webb has done a really lovely job of weaving in the more serious problems relating to the hero's vocation while maintaining a marvelous sense of humor and romance."

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED it! January 31, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book made me laugh and smile all throughout it. Not having read the others in the series, I can't judge this one against the rest, but if the others are as light-hearted and hilarious, I look forward to them.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Series is a Wonderful Journey December 18, 2011
By Royt
Format:Kindle Edition
"I'm so glad to find the Donovans of the Delta series re-released in digital format! This book has great characters and great comedy served up with just the right touch of tears. It has a great sense of place, too. I felt as if I were taking a tour through the small Southern town of Pontotoc, MS, and then later, the Peabody in Memphis. This is the first of the series and I look forward to reading all five!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, poignant and altogether lovely December 16, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I love this book! The author does a superb job of bringing a small Southern town to life with very funny secondary characters such as Miss Beulah and Essie Mae, the town's gossips. The baseball and fried chicken scenes had me laughing out loud. And the poignant resolution had me crying. This book is great romantic comedy, but it also explores deep conflicts as Reverend Paul Donovan is torn between his own needs and those of his congregation. Don't miss this lovely, lovey book, the first in the Donovan series!

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely frothy February 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I saw a comment on here that this is not a religious book and that a reader stopped as soon as she suspected "smutty sex" might be involved. I can assure everyone - NO SMUTTY SEX - in fact, no sex until the end when they're married and then it's only suggested!

The plot contradictory. Way out girl buys house next to gorgeous single vicar/reverend in a small country town. W/O girl has cat, dog and every intention of settling down, but meets dishy vicar and falls for him. Dishy vicar falls for girl. After that, the girl decides that a man of God is not for her and she should hit the road again. What she was going to do with her house and animals is not explained and why she would pass up on such a scrumptious bloke is beyond me.

I won't give a spoiler, but I do think this novel could have had a much deeper thread. Hopefully, attitudes have changed even in small rural towns in the USA, but there must have been quite a harrowing transition period from when the vicar's wife was a pious, do-gooding woman who was the slave of the town to independent women who now have their own careers (vicar's are not well paid even today unless he's a Charismatic)Certainly that was the case here in Australia "back when"

This novel follows the town division over the suitability of the minister's wife and its resolution. Peggy Webb has chosen to write a pleasant read which could have been so much more.

I have given it four stars because it doesn't pretend to be anything more than a light romance and I do intend to read the next in the series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute March 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I started reading it up without really remembering what it was about and was immediately disappointed when I read the hero was a minister and thought oh here we go with the preaching and proverbs but was pleasantly surprised it was kept at a minimum. Granted the hero didn't act as any minister I ever knew but for a fiction contemporary romance novel it worked for me and was entertaining. I liked the two H/h together, loved that pets were mentioned throughout and actually liked the busybody gossip of the town. I was glad to have downloaded it for free and will keep my eye out for other free books by this author. Happy Reading and Enjoy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Really disliked this book March 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I thought this book would be a sweet romance between a "man of the cloth" and a girl next door but I was wrong. It was a little too rauchy and not at all sweet and romantic. I disliked the characters and just basically skimmed through it to get to the end.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not my style February 8, 2013

Not my type of reading, too much drama and not true life story. It is too much sex and not real life.

Just a so so read. Not sure what I was expecting. A good clean read, but a little unrealistic in spots. Of course there is a HEA. A sweet read, just not a lot of pizzaz.
