Don't Bid On It: Until I tell you how eBay® really works

This program is for both beginners who have never used eBay and experienced eBay users who have been buying and selling for years. I see both experienced and new members making mistakes that cost them money as buyers and sellers. Everyone will learn something from this program. I call it a program and not a book because it is more than a story or quick reference. It is a complete system that will make your eBay experience much safer and more enjoyable not to mention more profitable. EBay is a really fun place to buy, sell, and meet other people. You have to understand how it works to gain the most from it.

The first part of this program is this book which explains the in’s and out’s of eBay and PayPal. The second part is the Scams and Scoundrels book which helps you avoid scams. The third part is the Don’t Bid On It Video which demonstrates how to setup your account, how to bid and win auctions, as well as how to sell items.

We will also discuss PayPal extensively. PayPal is the payment system used on eBay. We could never discuss eBay fully without covering PayPal.

Even if you are already on eBay, I encourage you to go through the beginner and account setup sections. You will find many tips and tricks. This advice will not only improve your eBay experience, it will help protect you from criminals.

As a buyer, you will learn how to determine the amount to bid, how to place the most effective bids that can win, how to obtain the best price and how to pick trustworthy sellers. As a seller, you will learn how to setup auctions that will attract the most interested buyers, how to answer questions before they are asked, how to present a professional and trust inspiring auction listing, how to avoid fraudulent bidders, plus many more tips you will need to be a top notch eBay’er.

Topics include:

  • eBay and PayPal account setup(for maximum security)
  • Searching Techniques(find the best deals)
  • How bidding works(how it really works)
  • Evaluating sellers(find honest and trustworthy sellers by looking beyond feedback)
  • Buying and Selling strategies
  • Feedback(protecting your feedback and how to use feedback correctly)
  • Taking photos that gain your auctions the most bids
  • Shipping made simple
  • And much much more...

Out of my tens of thousands of transactions using eBay and PayPal, I have had very few bad experiences. The majority of eBay users are honest people interested in making a legitimate transaction.

You do not have to jump in to the fire all at once. You can and should start small. Buy a few items here and there as you need them. Then sell an item or two that you no longer need. These small transactions will quickly gain you experience and confidence in using eBay. After completing this program, your friends will be coming to you for advice.

We talk about everything other authors are afraid to talk about. The Don't Bid On It series(Don't Bid On It, Scams and Scoundrels, and the Demonstration Video) covers many topics not covered in ANY other eBay book or Video.

Good Luck and Don’t Bid On It™, not until you have finished this program!

Editorial Reviews

Review

Who among us has not either tried eBay or wanted to try using eBay? The promise of bargain prices, antiques, and collectables by the thousands is hard to avoid but many do avoid eBay. Why? I think it is fear that keeps newbies from trying it and bad experiences may keep others from returning. After reading Dont Bid On It, your fears about using eBay will be gone or your confidence in using it safely will encourage you to return to eBay.

The Dont Bid On It book will get new people started on eBay by providing far more information on using eBay than the actual site does. Veterans don t know everything in here either. I checked eBay and found many sellers with high feedback ratings, and even Power Seller icons by their name, making many mistakes that are pointed out in Dont Bid On It. A history of buying or selling on eBay does not translate into knowledge or experience or even honesty.

There are a number of eBay beginner books out there but none are like this. It says on the cover Learn the secrets other authors will not even talk about and they do cover a lot of material I have never seen in any other book about eBay. They don t pull any punches either. The writing style is very straight forward. The photos and diagrams show you what to do and then explain why it works.

Many books explain the basics of how to use eBay; how to place a bid, how to post an auction. But, these books leave out the most important information, how do you do it correctly and how do you do it safely? Dont Bid On It answers this question. It not only answers it, it hits you over the head and makes you see the light. The book covers every detail about setting up a new eBay and PayPal account including how to prevent criminals from misusing it even if it is compromised. It reveals free tools you can use to protect yourself from various internet scams including spoof websites. It goes on to explain how auctions work, that is to say how they really work, including bidder to seller psychology. It explains what to look for in a good auction and which auctions you should avoid. Which items are common frauds and how to spot them. It explains how a seller should post an auction and goes into detail about exactly what should and should not be included to obtain the highest selling price. Sellers also learn how to take photos that will attract the most bidders, how to deal with problem buyers, and even shipping secrets. Many books tell you to check a seller s feedback before bidding but they never say what you are looking for. Many people have been scammed by that seller with 100% positive feedback. Dont Bid On It explains how to identify an account as a fraudulent account even if it has a 100% positive feedback rating and it dedicates a full chapter to explaining exactly what feedback is and how you can use it to identify fraudulent sellers and hijacked eBay accounts.

Dont Bid On It offers the type of advice that wouldn't necessarily be considered professional for eBay to post on their website, but can be absolutely invaluable for those who are not sure of the sometimes tricky buying or selling processes.

It is obvious that author Michael Ford has been doing this for a while, and he has a strong point of view and a unique insight into the workings of eBay. The book is peppered with personal stories, both good and bad, of his own auction experiences. His personal experiences are entertaining, either because you've been through something like this and can relate, or because you may be afraid of going through the same experience if you did not know better from reading this book. The section on scams is also most informative and a must read for anyone doing business on eBay. He explains why self-insurance is illegal and why sellers who claim they are not responsible for an item once it ships are mistaken. --Staff Writer

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy or sell on ebay without reading this first., October 10, 2009
This review is from: Don't Bid On It: Until I tell you how eBay Really works! (Paperback)
It's a short book but long on information. If you buy or sell on ebay, you need to read this informative book by ebay power seller, Michael Ford. Ford knows the ins and outs of ebay. He knows all the dirty little tricks of both buyers and, most of all, sellers.

There is a right way to buy. There's a right way to sell. You'll discover how to take great pictures, whether or not to put your phone number on your listings and how to get a phone number to list. You'll find out all about feedback. You'll learn about the payment system. You'll even learn how to choose what to sell. You'll even discover relisting secrets.

I would prefer the book have an index, which it didn't. Beyond that, the book is of great value to anyone who does business on ebay.

Highly recommended.
