Ain't No Bugs on ME!,
By Mazzy "Mazzy" (Little Rock, AR) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Don't Bite Me Patch (20/box) (Health and Beauty)
I live in heavily infested forests in Arkansas. Hiking, camping and swimming is what I do. I had to give these up due to the fact that two weeks after summer starts, my arms and legs looked like I had some disease due to all the bites. So, I did some research and found out that the chemical we emit from our bodies can actually attract more insect bites. Persons with thyroid problems tend to have more problems. This explained a lot because I have hypothyroidism. The patch made so much sense to me because it changes your excreted odor, not just covered it up. I've not had one bite now!! You have no idea what a miracle this was for me. Some people do smell like vitamins, but I'd take that any day of the week to enjoy nature again. I can also see where this might not work for everyone due to our body chemistries being so different. My suggestion is to change your diet or research any medications you take to see if there's an alternative. I want to buy stock in this company just to assure it's survival!

Don't Bug Me Patch - didn't work for me,
By Connman (Troy, MI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Don't Bite Me Patch (20/box) (Health and Beauty)
I used the product per the instructions provided, which included using two patches if I was over 200 lbs. I did this two hours prior to arriving at Boy Scout camp with my son, and changed the patches every 36 hours, per the instructions. Within the first 48 hours, it was like I had nothing on to guard against Mosquitoes (or in my case, just like if I used the 25% DEET products, which are also not effective for me). I also saw no relief from the gnats at camp who were swarming around all our heads. I was bitten by mosquitoes from head to toe. This product MAY work for you, but I can say that it does not work for everyone (though I really wish it did!)

They didn't bug me (mostly),

I bought this product before a family vacation back in July. My husband isn't bothered by mosquitos and such and likes to spend a lot of time outdoors, but the kids and I always end up bitten. We wore the patch through swimming, hiking in the woods and playing, and into the evening hours (to watch 4th of July fireworks). We had 2 bites between the three of us-- a LOT less than usual, especially considering that at home I usually get bitten within 5 minutes of setting foot outside.
Minuses: You DO smell like vitamins after a while. I didn't notice it much while I wearing it, but when the kids wore it separately, I could smell it as soon as they walked up to me. (Maybe I'll save it for when my girls are teenagers and going out on dates!) Pluses: It works. It is convenient--just peel and stick. I removed half the paper liner at a time, and that kept the patch under control when applying it. I thought the kids would complain when I removed them, but it wasn't as bad as removing a band aid. (I put the patch on a hairless area, and used a steady pull, no sudden rips. Maybe the previous reviewer put it on a sensitive area? I have used the hip and thigh, and that seems to work OK.) It lasted all day. I didn't have to worry about bug spray on the kids (the younger one still sucks her thumb), or have to carry the spray can around. So four stars instead of five because of the vitamin smell, and because we did get a couple of bites. It worked better for us than all but the strongest bug sprays (deep woods off), and was a lot more convenient. I will buy this produce again when the box runs out.

Works!,

This is a great product. We live in a rural location, where there are TONS of biting insects. I have tried every topical insect repellent out there.....the mosquitos will continue to bite me even through 25% DEET. Out of desperation, I tried these patches. I have not had one single bite since putting a patch on! Frankly, I consider it a miracle. However, I do smell like a walking bottle of strong vitamins. I guess the scent/odor is better than being mauled by biting bugs, because I keep putting a new patch on every 36 hours. This is an innovative solution and worth a try if you suffer from lots of bites.

Worked for kids, not for me, got more pimples!,

I am the type of person that mosquitoes just love to bite, just walking to my car I get mosquito bites. I researched different products for anti mosquitoes. Found this one interesting enough that I bought 2 boxes of 25 patches. We went camping last weekend and just wanted to be ready. It says on the box that you might need more than 1 patch if there are more mosquitoes, so I placed 2 patches. Well I still got mosquito bites and the next day I got several pimples too. Vitamin B1 or Thiamine, I guess can give you pimples if you get a higher dose, and guess what the main ingredient is on this patch, yup, Thiamine. I actully used 3 patches and still got several mosquito bites. I placed one on my nephew and it worked ok on him, it did made him smell like "vitamins" but not that bad. Thats why I am giving it 3 stars because it worked on my nephew.

I live in an area where you cannot so much as step outside for a moment without being swarmed from head to toe in mosquitoes. This product made a lot of promises, and delivered on none of them. By the time the patch had been on for 2 hours, I found myself reaking of vitamins, tasting a nasty taste, and sweating...indoors with the airconditioning on. My husband said he could smell me from across the room. My first instinct was to tear off the patch and shower, but I had to give it a chance. So, I ventured outside, into the heaviest mosquito spot on our property. I was instantly swarmed and bitten dozens of times.
Additionally, I did some digging and found that no research has been done verifying the safety of this product. "Don't Bite Me"'s website states that their patch, "delivers a blend of Vitamin B1 and Aloe, making it natural, simple and safe." Natural does not mean a thing. Arsenic and cyanide are natural. I'm not convinced that overdosing on thiamine is safe for anyone. The recommended daily allowance of B1 is 1 mg a day for an adult and as low as 0.2 mg for a baby. This patch delivers 10 mgs. The symptoms of overdose (according to [...]) include a feeling of warmth, weakness, sweating, nausea, restlessness, tightness of the throat, bluish colored skin, and death. As a consumer, I have to say this product is completely useless for its intended purpose. As a health care professional, I have to warn people to refrain from its use due to possible health risks.

Didn't work for me,

I purchased this product based on all the positive customer reviews. The fact that these patches didn't work AT ALL for me, leads me to believe that either A.) the reviews were bogus propaganda created by the makers or B.) the patches simply work for some people and not others.
I tried these patches on my trip to Bonaire. I wore two patches (because I take birth control) continually, changing them as directed. I was eaten alive. One thing I will say for the company is that they offer a free sample of their product on their website. So I do recommend giving them a try. What have you got to lose? Except a little blood... [...]

So I have major issues with bug bites, they find me wherever I go, they love me, I don't love them!! Once I had to leave my friends birthday party in central park because i was being ATTACKED!!! even though i sprayed OFF all over...everyone else was fine, but i had to run home!!
So, I tried these patches and was skeptical every time thinking, well maybe there just aren't any mosquitos out tonight...but that wasn't the case, I've used it enough times to know IT WORKS! especially last night, my friend was getting bit like crazy and i wasnt which was nuts...i told her about my patch and gave one to her...not only did they stop biting her but the ones that just bit her didn't hurt/itch as much. I just ordered more, thanks don't bite me bug patches!!! oh and yes it does smell like vitamins but who cares...i put it on my leg last night instead of my arm which helped with the smell a lot.

Worked for me and my son!,

From the reviews here, I gather that the patch does not work for everyone. But wow, it worked really well for me and for my 8yo son. I'm the kind of person where if I'm around, no one else gets bitten by mosquitos--I'm that yummy, I guess. :-) We joke that my son is a tick magnet--we check him for ticks, and if he doesn't have any, no one else in the family will either. But neither of us had any bites at all wearing these--until I forgot to reapply and went past the 36 hour mark. It doesn't handle buzzing insects (nor does it claim to), so the gnats and other noseeums that DEET handles won't be affected. But if you're mostly worried about bites, it's absolutely worth a try to see if the patches work for you. I was really impressed, and since I send my kids to an outdoor day camp where they swim, I've looked for non-DEET alternatives (they started going when they were too young to safely apply such chemicals without help, and no help was available). So we've tried wrist bands, and various other non-DEET alternatives. This one worked. And hey--it's a B-1 vitamin that your body excretes safely if you get more than it needs. Hmmm--nasty, damaging chemicals or a vitamin? I'd try this first, and see if it works as well for you as it has for some people (there are smaller units available to try if you want a sample, but in a $-per-patch cost ratio, this is a better deal than we found at the grocery store, FWIW).
