5.0 out of 5 stars This is ELECTRO!
Those expecting cheesy metal with drum machines WILL be disappointed. This is dark electro in the vein of Meat Beat Manifesto's Original Fire and TTK's I See Good Spirits, and Raymond Watts is at his best here. I could see you mixing this with Afrika Banbatta or Miss Kittin pretty easily. I own almost all of KMFDM's albums, and as I get older, this one gets played the...

2.0 out of 5 stars Going topless
This album was released before I really got into the band or even knew who they were, so I'm doing a bit of backtracking on my KMFDM collection by picking up the newly remastered edition here.

There's not much meat on the bones of most of these songs. The first four tracks are the only ones with substantial amount of lead vocals, but even these are weak and...

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic KMFDM, October 4, 2006
This review is from: Don't Blow Your Top (Audio CD)
If your new to KMFDM you might be suprised or shocked at how different they sounded in the old days. It might even take some getting used to. Don't let that scare you. It is an awsome album with some of KMFDM's "classic" songs like "no meat not man" and "don't blow your top", or at least thats my opinion. If your a long time KMFDM fan this purchase is a no brainer, if your new give it a shot, you probably won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Its KMFDM, enough said., December 22, 1999

This is a great album, although it does not incorporate as much industrial noise into the songs. You got to remember how old this is(circa 1988). I love old school industrial just as much as the new. Their Big Black influances really come out on this album. A lot this album reminds me old Ministry like Twitch or Land of Rape and Honey. As much as I like this one I will defianently have to pick up their first album. Other bands you should check out if you like KMFDM the two above and Pig, Excessive Force, and any band on the Wax Trax label.

4.0 out of 5 stars If You Want Something Weird, April 7, 2000
By
This review is from: Don't Blow Your Top (Audio CD)
This is without a doubt, the weirdest cd Sascha and the boys have ever put out. Like their debut "What Do You Know Deutschland" the lineup rocks. Sascha, En Esch and Raymond <PIG> Watts. The music is similar yet more refined and complex. The cd opens with the memorable "No Meat No Man" which has really confusing lyrics but awesome guitars by Esch and vocals by Ray. The title track rocks as well. Now you can see where Rob Zombie gets some of his influences from. "Disgust" rocks as well. Its a slow-funky track with chilling vocals. Then thats where the cd gets weird and creepy. Starting with "Oh Look" the songs turn into sample schmorgasbords with no vocals by any of the members, but with additional music. "King Kong Dub Rubber Mix" and "What A Race" have some good music but other tracks like "Killing (for your Sampling Kit) and "Tod Durch Bongo Bongo" leave nothing for the imagination. There just repitition at its worst. Get this if youre feeling the need for something weird from KMFDM.

4.0 out of 5 stars Creative, May 18, 1998

This is another good album by KMFDM. This one has some strange noises, long instrumentals, and voice overs in it, so it may not be for novices. However, this album grows on you with each listen. If you feel brave and have an open mind, pick up this release.

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic, April 25, 2007
This review is from: Don't Blow Your Top (Audio CD)
I don't need your sweet devotion
I don't want your cheap emotion
You will do as you are told
'til the rights to you are sold

Like most KMFDM albums, the general feel of this album is contempt. However, unlike ADIOS and and Symbols, this album is more of a held-in, passive contempt. "Disguist" is one of my favorite songs. You can almost see the frown on sasquatch's face as you hear the lyrics. "Oh Look" has a killer drum and bass loop that I can listen to many times without getting sick of.

The lyrics are very light on this cd compared to other albums, which some may complain but I find it an advantage as this cd can easily be listened to while doing other things such as working/studying. Overall, I find this album a refreshing change of pace.

This is classic album, exemplary of old-school-industrial music. What Do You Know, Deutschland? is better, but only slightly. In all seriousness, you people who call yourselves fans, but dont buy the albums, and cant even appreciate real industrial music can just bugger off. BUY THIS CD.

This album was released before I really got into the band or even knew who they were, so I'm doing a bit of backtracking on my KMFDM collection by picking up the newly remastered edition here.

There's not much meat on the bones of most of these songs. The first four tracks are the only ones with substantial amount of lead vocals, but even these are weak and unmemorable. The vocals for "No Meat, No Man" annoy me, and contain some of the worst lyrics I've ever heard. The remaining tracks in this group are at least listenable, but the title track is the best by far, featuring female vocals to deliver the hook in the chorus (already at this early stage the band was setting itself apart from their Industrial contemporaries).

The remainder of DBYT is nearly devoid of any vocalists. Cut-and-paste style audio clips dress up the still aggressive beats. None of these are so horrible (I prefer this section of the CD), yet collectively they feel a bit monotonous. Mostly between 2 and 4 minutes at least they're kept reasonable on time length. The bass-heavy "Tod Durch Bongo-Bongo" is rife with trippy sounds and echo, the biggest departure from anything else on here. The last two tracks aren't intriguing for me to keep coming back to.

For me the band really hit their stride in the early 90's. DBYT might not have aged well, but shows KMFDM playing with different ideas early on.

Final Rating: 2 out of 5 stars
Favorite tracks: "Don't Blow Your Top", "Disgust", "What a Race"

2.0 out of 5 stars 2 or 3 good songs, the rest is mediocre, April 4, 2001
This review is from: Don't Blow Your Top (Audio CD)
When I bought this cd I remember I got impressed by the first two songs; it's not that they're hits but 'No meat-no man' and 'Don't Blow Your Top' are good songs, which made me anticipate a very good album; but the rest of the songs are mediocre accumulations of instrumental passages and samples, repetitive and usually boring, lacking the fantastic beat changes of Skinny puppy; in fact these songs sound TO ME as insipid instrumental songs sounding as blurred 242 or puppy songs. Maybe 'Disgust' is the only which does add anything interesting, the rest are boring and makes a neverending listening out of this cd; I usually end up skipping the songs and changing it for some Puppy cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars KMFDM is stronger than never ever before!, October 15, 2006
This review is from: Don't Blow Your Top (Audio CD)
This is a great time to be a KMFDM fan. Not only are they releasing awesome new music in the form of Hau Ruck and the Ruck Zuck EP, they are releasing remastered versions of their classic back catalog. One thing I always disliked about old KMFDM was the sound level on their discs was always so long. Not anymore! Everything about this package is great. Old and new fans alike owe it to themselves to pick this up.
