This review is from: Don't Bore Us Get to the Chorus : Roxette's Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Sweden seems to be a very quiet country. Once in a while a lot of noise comes out of it that eventually fades away years later but leaves a permanent emotional mark. In the 70's, they gave us ABBA, and in the late 80's and well into the 90's, Roxette was a worldwide sensation.

Comprising of two members, the voice Marie Fredriksson (vocals) and the mind Per Gessle (songwriter, guitarist, sometimes vocals), together this pair produced a string of chartbreaking hits on both sides of the Atlantic, and instant classics.

All the wonderful songs are included in this must-have compilation: the major US number one hit singles It Must Have Been Love (from the Pretty Woman soundtrack), The Look (their first big break in North America), and Listen To Your Heart (a beautiful chart topping ballad). The album also includes the power ballads Spending My Time, and Fading Like A Flower (Every Time You Leave), the mindblowing Vulnerable (featuring Per Gessle on lead vocals) , Almost Unreal (from the box office flop Super Mario Bros), Crash Boom Bang, and the fun pop tunes How Do You Do? and Joyride. The album also features four newer songs as of 1995 including the irresistably good You Don't Understand Me and the Beatlesque hippy tune June Afternoon.

Don't Bore Us, Get To The Chorus is a perfect substitute for most of the Roxette collection of albums.

Definitely worth owning!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun!, December 11, 1999

This review is from: Don't Bore Us Get to the Chorus : Roxette's Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This CD has all their hits and a few new tracks, and is filled with the bouncy energy that characterizes most of their songs. Their debut smash "The Look", the funky "Joyride", and the hard-drivin' "Sleeping In My Car" are all here.

But Roxette's slow songs are also excellent, highlighted by The Pretty Woman single "It Must Have Been Love", one of my favourite ballads of all time. Also here are "Listen To Your Heart", "Spending My Time", "Crash, Boom, Bang", and "Dangerous".

Finally, the new releases here are also very good, in particular "June Afternoon", a funky opening track that makes me want to jump in the car and go roaring off into the summer with the top pulled down, and "You Don't Understand Me", a mellow tune that speaks of the gulf that often exists between the sexes. Nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars The United States really missed something wonderful here, November 24, 2004

I remember first seeing Roxette on MTV back in the 80's (when MTV was good and actually played music videos) and I flipped over "The Look" and "Joyride". I had cassette singles of these songs and that's all I had from Roxette until I went on a search for a compilation. Well, I looked everywhere and could not find what I wanted. There's not a good compilation for them in the U.S.! I finally ran across this CD and am I ever glad I did. What a package this one is. This is one of my favorite CDs and I have over 1,000.

I just wish they were better known in this country (U.S.) as they are truly fantastic. The United States really missed out on something great here. Even so, most people should recognize "It Must Have Been Love" from the "Pretty Woman" soundtrack. I wasn't aware of it until getting this disc and it was a nice surprise-------I KNEW THAT SONG! There is not one bad song on here. This disc is a true "mood lifter" if there ever was one.

This collection is well worth the money. Go for it! You know you want to.

5.0 out of 5 stars refreshing, November 4, 2005
This review is from: Don't Bore Us Get to the Chorus : Roxette's Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
In this day and age of the so called "emo" music and people who are so ignorant that they are calling groups like Def Leopard and Metallica punk music, it is refreshing to listen to a group that actually has talent.
Granted, Per Gessle's voice is not on par with someone like U2's Bono (but then again whose is?) but Mr. Gessele's song writting skills are unique and the lyrics are good to sing along to in this day and age where actually writting your own songs is virtually extint.
We all remember "It Must Have Been Love" and "Joyride" from the good ole 90's. It goes without saying that those two songs are well done. However, not everyone may remember the little known "Never Is A Long Time", but this song is a hidden jewel.
"Don't Bore Us, Get To The Chorus" will definetely deliver your bang for your buck; whether you are already a Roxette fan or just someone looking to try out some good music from a group that has talent, you won't be disappointed.
Why not try a group that does have talent, unlike the saccarine Britney Spears pop or Avril Lavinge's "my-life-is-so-horrible" punk music that does nothing but pollute the environment's airwaves.
Roxette is refreshing - a breath of fresh air.

5.0 out of 5 stars Roxette Just Rox Your Sox, February 14, 2005

This review is from: Don't Bore Us Get to the Chorus : Roxette's Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Now this is a greatest hits for the greatest overseas pop group. To me Per Gessle is the heart and Marie Fredriksson is the soul of Roxette.Per writes the most catchy pop songs and the most coolest ballads. As Marie has that awesome voice that makes you listen.Per is a good singer also. This combination was pure hit makers all over.It is so hard to pick a favorite song there is too many to pick from.As for the cd the selection has about every big hit on here.In the cover booklet has all the lyrics and comments from Per and Marie. As for being a import of course you got to spend more for it.But this collection is well worth every penny. There is a U.S. version as well but you only get 16 songs and the first two songs are different than on this cd.But it is cheaper. It will be on the Edel Records label.Don't buy the "Ballad Hits" album, its missing too many good songs. So if you are still into 80's and 90's pop music this cd is a must buy.A great summer car cd.Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best greatest hits album ever releasesd, May 4, 2003

This review is from: Don't Bore Us Get to the Chorus : Roxette's Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This sensational 18 track album contains all of Roxette's huge hits such as The Look, Joyride, Dressed for Success and It Must Have Been Love. If you've got the original albums you should still buy this one as most of the songs on here as the US single versions which are slightly different to the original album versions.

This CD has a pretty thick booklet inside the cover. It sort of has the lyrics for each song jammed together in a paragraph like reading a story. There is also another paragraph with each song some are commentaries of the songs by Per or Marie others by other people are about events of the time or the song in general. Pretty interesting reading.

The four previously unreleased tracks are brilliant as well and worth buying this album for alone. June Afternoon is a bright summer sounding happy modern song. You Don't Understand Me is also sensational slow paced but speeds up in parts to make it even more interesting. She Doesn't Live Here Anymore is another brilliant fast paced pop rock song about the singer's girl he loved who has moved away. The final previously unreleased song I Don't Want to get Hurt is a ballad which is okay to have playing in the background but not that great if actually consciously listening to the songs.

You know the rest but just in case you're a little young to remember or you've been kept prisoner in a dungeon somewhere during the late 80's and throughout the 90's and couldn't here a radio I'll tell you about them.

The Look is of course one of the greatest songs of all time. It used to be my favourite song was I was in primary school back in 1989 and I still love it. It's one of the only Roxette songs where Per, (the guy) is the lead singer. Dressed for Success is another sensational song and you'll often here it being played in the background of news reports of catwalks and fashion shows.

Listen to Your Heart is one of the best love songs of all time. The edition on here is the one released in Sweden (yes song's are released in English). Dangerous is of course one of the classics and was a hit single. It's a sensational fast song with a good beat. About a girl a guy is attracted to being dangerous. Per sings the guys voice with Marie singing the girl's response.

It Must Have Been Love was of course made famous from the Pretty Woman soundtrack. Another sensational love song. Joyride is another great song and one of the rare Per as lead vocal ones. Some excellent whistling solos too. Remember the film clip of them sitting on the bonnet of a red sports car as the scenery flew by? It was brilliant.

Fading Like A Flower is another slow romantic ballad with great piano action which I don't think is as good as their others but some people love it. The Big L is about the big love. It's a fast paced great song similar sounding to Joyride but different enough not to sound like a remake.

Spending My Time is heavy on the lyrics and piano. About someone spending their time thinking about the person they love who has dumped them. How Do You Do! is a great song sort of deliberately stupid sounding but I like it.

Almost Unreal is a motivational type hope giving magic sort of song. Sleeping In My Car is a sensational fast rock type of song about someone trying to get close to the person they like telling them what they will do for them in the back of their car.

Crash! Boom! Bang! is brilliant. It's slow paced but that let's you hear the lyrics clearly.
Vulnerable is similar sounding to the previous song and again has sensational lyrics about how vulnerable a girl the singer loves is and how he doesn't want to hurt her.

You have to own this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect pop from Sweden, February 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Don't Bore Us Get to the Chorus : Roxette's Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This album, which contains all of Roxette's big hits, is one of the best ever made. This Swedish band is the perfect example of chemistry in a duo: Per and Marie complement each other wonderfully. The first is a creative and talented songwriter, and the latter sings like a goddess. Full of tremendous songs, this album keeps its grip on the listener for beginning to end. With the possible of exception of "Big Love" and "Dangerous", every track is of extremely high quality. Even after all these years, my personal favorite is "Listen to Your Heart". The final chorus of this song is especially enchanting. Other songs that deserve an honorable mention are "It Must Have Been Love", "Fading like a Flower", "Spending My Time", "Joyride", ...oh! I could go on and on, but I will also rescue "Almost Unreal", even though many dislike it. The chorus is delightful, and the main reason it has had such bad publicity is that it was in the "Super Mario Bros." film. The four new tracks are all excellent, as well as varied in style. In summary, Roxette not only doesn't bore us , but provides us with an amazing collection that will perennially remain in the listeners' favorites list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not their Greatest Songs, but HITS, December 31, 2001

This review is from: Don't Bore Us Get to the Chorus : Roxette's Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
The Roxette story is as famed as their killer chorusses & their power ballads. This CD reviews Roxette's success up to 1995 & contains all the super hits you know & love. Standout hits have to be Almost Unreal (never released before on a Roxette album), the achingly gorgeous Spending My Time & Crash! Boom! Bang!. The cd reminds you just how brilliant Roxette are & lets you relive those late 80s/early 90s moments, should it be the na-na-na-na's of The Look, or of the raucous It Must Have Been Love from Pretty Woman. Marie is, Julia is not. Even for Roxette fans who have all their albums to date, the album is worthwhile for the 4 new tracks included; You Don't Unerstand Me is one of Roxette's finest moments. She Doesn't Live Here Anymore is an extra-catchy Per-led rock song. June Afternoon, also sung by Per, is an ice-cream & candyfloss type song (ith quite a surreal video). I Don't Wana Get Hurt is a great ballad sung by Marie, which closes off a perfect album.

Not all their singles are here - Church of Your Heart or Queen Of Rain for example, the latter being one of Rxette's finer moments. It should have replaced Vulnerable (included here), which in layman's terms is quite crap.

The liner notes in the booklet are commentaries by Roxette on all the songs included, which is a nice inclusion for fans, as it gives them a glimpse of how Roxette view their songs & tell a few intersting stories. Few greatest hits albums go into this much depth. A worthy addition to any music fan's collection, this is one of the more comprehensive GH vehicles around. Join the Joyride, folks

5.0 out of 5 stars A great album - purchased because of Napster, July 31, 2000

Having downloaded a song I knew, "Joyride" from Napster, I decided to try some other Roxette songs. After checking out a few more tracks, I realized that I knew and loved many songs from this band. "It must have been love", "The look", "Dangerous" and "Joyride" are outstanding. I'm a huge fan of other female-fronted bands such as Concrete Blonde and Natalie Merchant. Marie Fredrikssone's strong, breathtaking vocals on the band's ballads don't disappoint and are a strong "hook" for me. I just wanted to emphasize that if it weren't for Napster's exposure, I wouldn't have bought this album. Not only did I purchase this release, but I am anxiously awaiting their next album, to be released (hopefully) by mid-2001.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ah, those were the days!, November 18, 1999
This review is from: Don't Bore Us Get to the Chorus : Roxette's Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
If you ever enjoyed late 80's/early 90's pop music, you owe it to yourself to get this album. Roxette manage to pack 18 terrifically catchy tracks onto one CD, ranging from the stirringly emotional to the upliftingly boppy. Pleasingly, the four new tracks are some of the best on the album. They (that is, music industry) don't make music like this any more, so _Don't Bore Us_ is a fine piece of nostalgia. But far from being a dated trip down memory lane, most of the tracks still sound remarkably fresh.
