IT GIVES A TRUE PERSPECTIVE OF MEDIC'S VIEW OF THE WAR !,

Watching this movie blew me out of the saddle so to speak because it was so accurate. I was an Air Force Medic in Nam and the Phillipines. There were no Hollywood special effects, shootem up thing. It showed the emotional side of our day to day life as it happened there. The detail was stunningly accurate !! Bob :-)

One of THE most memorable, and moving, film EVER!,

One of THE most memorable films I have ever seen! I think I saw it first in the early '80's and made a vhs tape of it off the Satellite so I could watch it again and again, and share it with friends. Dennis Christopher was great. Was just watching his earlier stand-out performance in "Breaking Away" and was distressed to find out that "Don't Cry..." was NOT on DVD. What will it take?

Don't Cry Its Only Thunder gave me a whole new take on the Vietnam War.
That was my era. I saw a young man, there to do his time and he had to quickly grow up and he did it well. I remember the music was fantastic. Everyone should see this wonderful movie. I have since lost my hearing and would love to see it out on DVD with subtitles. I'm with the other guy except for a different reason. See it! Don't take your hearing for granted either.

I first saw this movie in 1982 when I was in elementary school. Of course I didn't remember much of it, but what I did rememeber stayed with me all these years (a soldier, Brian Anderson, helping orphans in Vietnam, a beloved little girl, Anh dying). It left an impression on me so much so that recently I started thinking about the movie (even after all these years) and so I decided, on a lark, to look for it on Amazon.com. Imagine how thrilled I was to find that I could own it and watch it again!
Once I started watching it, it all came back to me and I immediately remembered most of the movie again. This time around, I watched it with my husband who was impressed that I could remember this movie from my childhood (above Fraggle Rock, the Secret of Nihm, more "appropriate" things that I was also watched as a child). It made me laugh and it made me cry and I was deeply touched by Brian's experiences with the orphan children. It's a great movie and I was amazed to learn, as an adult now, that it's a true story! After the movie I was inspired to borrow the book from my local library. I am so happy that I was able to add this to my personal home movie library.

OK, I'm prejudiced. My name is Ron Orso, and I played Mike Washington (one of the morgue attendants) and I thought it was a great movie. Based on a real story, and the actors were down to earth people. I played several games of chess w/ Susan St. James before I even knew who she was...(this was before "Kate & Allie.")
Well worth the look. Filmed in the Philippines in 1980 at Clark AB. Most extras were USAF.

If you haven't seen this movie, you need to buy it RIGHT NOW. Very touching and gives a different view of what was happening with the orphaned Vietnamese children during the war. An absolute heart breaking yet riveting movie.

This is a great film. If Sony doesn't remaster this on a DVD, they should at least sell it to someone who will!!

Follows the "cad gets a heart" formula, but does so very effectively. Exceptional performances by Dennis Christopher and Susan Saint James. The portrayals of Anh, Duc, and the two Sisters were memorable.
Sorely wish this was available on a widescreen DVD.

This is a movie worth seeing at least once in your life. Dennis Christopher plays a goof off Army boy, who likes to fool around and avoid his job. But when he comes across a bunch of orphans, he feels responsible for their lives. Only, he only wants to get involved a little bit, but falls for a small girl who he decides to adopt and bring to the U.S. Full of sadness and delight, this movie will make you laugh and cry. This is a great movie, but not intended for younger viewers. It is violent, and some cursing, but the plot is wonderful. I have this on VHS, but I would love to see it on DVD. Watch it and see what you think.
