What a gem!,

You don't have to be a big bluegrass fan or know much about Jimmy Martin to be blown away by this captivating collection of gems, which includes previously unreleased stunners from Martin's early days as well as a few more recent showstoppers recorded during the filming of the terrific new documentary on Jimmy titled "King of Bluegrass." George Goehl, who directed that film and produced this CD, should be applauded for unearthing so many great live recordings of Jimmy and his Sunny Mountain Boys band at the top of their game. This CD is a must for any serious bluegrass fan, and it's perfectly capped off by a recent recording of Jimmy hauntingly singing "Time Has Made a Change" unaccompanied in his living room. The story of Martin's long, grueling career, filled as it is with incredible highs and embittering lows, is brilliantly captured in this brief clip, but if you want to see this clip brought to life and fleshed out more comprehensively, do yourself a favor and purchase the "King of Bluegrass" documentary along with this CD. Together, they tell quite a story.

Jimmy Cracks Corn and I Do Care!,

This review is from: Don't Cry to Me (W/Cdrom) (Audio CD)
Jimmy Martin's gregariousness is well represented on this career-spanning compilation CD which includes previously released studio chesnuts like Dont Cry to Me and Losing You and some great live versions (old and new) of other classics llike Hit Parade of Love and the signature Free Born Man. Some great on-stage trash talking is also included as he introduces the songs. Highly recommended for newcomers to bluegrass as well as those familiar with the one of bluegrass' last remaining originals.
