5.0 out of 5 stars Be free of the diet trap forever!
Finally - the perfect book that will help you get to the root cause of overeating and it has nothing to do with calories! Most of us aren't eating to feed bodily hunger - we're eating to fill up emotional hunger, and until we find out the "why" of why we do that, we're just going to keep eating and dieting, and bingeing, etc. This wonderful workbook, written...

3.0 out of 5 stars Narrow focus to overeating
While I found interesting things in this book about why people over-eat. It really didn't apply to my circumstances. This book focuses on those who use eating as a coping mechanism for their overwhelming lives. If you have been abused, feel guilty about your weight, or you are struggling with anxiety you will probably find this book very helpful. Otherwise, I would...

Most of us aren't eating to feed bodily hunger - we're eating to fill up emotional hunger, and until we find out the "why" of why we do that, we're just going to keep eating and dieting, and bingeing, etc. This wonderful workbook, written by two beautiful ladies who've "been there, done that" is the answer. If you've never accessed feelings before, they lead you ever so gently, and it's - literally - life-changing. Go for it - what do you have to lose?!

5.0 out of 5 stars Contributes to Treatment of Eating Disorders, August 27, 2000

This review is from: The Don't Diet, Live-It! Workbook: Healing Food, Weight and Body Issues (Paperback)
I am a therapist at an outpatient clinic dealing with eatings disorders. We have used this book for treatment of eating disorders for over 2 years. Every client has experienced benefits through the insights, questions, and guidelines in this book. Even "normies" can benefit. Marsia and Andrea have a loving, intelligent approach that both challenges and inspires readers. Their honesty and openess give hope to those who wish to change old behaviors and expand interpersonal relationships. This book is a jewel to be examined over and over.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring, March 7, 2006
This review is from: The Don't Diet, Live-It! Workbook: Healing Food, Weight and Body Issues (Paperback)
I find this book to be healing and inspiring.

I was first introduced to this book by a dear friend who wanted to help me get away from my unhealthy dieting and eating habits.

As soon as I started reading this book, it totally made sense to me. It not only encouraged me to eat well but it also helped me understand why many people (including me) fall for the irrational diets. It's been nearly 4 years since I read this book. I lost 20 pounds in the first 1.5 years and I never gained it back. Since then, this book became one of my favorite gifts to give away.

I have read dozens and dozens of books during my journey through understanding and healing my binge eating disorder. My therapist recommended this workbook and it is the only book I find myself going back to again and again for reinforcement. Even if you just look through it and never do the exercises, it contains key concepts that really resonated with me, including: black and white v. "rainbow" thinking; loving limits; and the various stages of recovery from an eating disorder. I highly recommend this to anyone who is struggling with eating and/or dieting issues. The only way to be at peace with yourself and with food is to stop dieting and eat mindfully.

Every woman I know would benefit from reading this book.
The book is written by two therapists and focuses on the role of food and eating in our lives.

I used this book while attending a weekly meeting with other women interested in the topic. We read through a chapter a week and did the exercises at the end of each chapter.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Eating Disorder Journey, April 27, 2008
This review is from: The Don't Diet, Live-It! Workbook: Healing Food, Weight and Body Issues (Paperback)
This is the type of workbook for anyone dealing with an eathing disorder at any stage. Thought provoking questions and space for the answers. The authors created this workbook for a person to go through a few times and each section provides more introspection.
There have been times when I have answered the questions quickly in a chapter and others where it took me a month to finish. I began to notice different things and be more aware of what I was doing and connect with what was/is possible.
My nutrionist suggested this workbook because it is not about dieting, it is about living. Sounds corney but true! I have suffered from binge eating, anorexia and bulimia most of my life but I never focused my attention on how to live rather than get over my eating disorder.
I do recommend having another person to talk to while you are growing through this process. Some strong emotions have come up for me and I was happy there was a person who was there when I wanted to talk about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, someone understands!, February 29, 2008
This review is from: The Don't Diet, Live-It! Workbook: Healing Food, Weight and Body Issues (Paperback)
This book was recommended by a therapist. I have been struggling with ED for my entire life, not knowing why. From the first page, I was amazed with this book and came to an amazing realization that I am not alone in how I feel. Truly, this book has helped me gain so much understanding about myself. The workbook is great and the exercises relevant and progress you towards healing. I recommend it to anyone who has struggled with ED such as bulumia, anorexia, binge/compulsive eating and overeating in general.

This review is from: The Don't Diet, Live-It! Workbook: Healing Food, Weight and Body Issues (Paperback)
The authors of this book understand, first hand, the challenges and thinking patterns of those facing eating disorders. The chapters are approached as "journeys" through these thinking patterns and destructive behaviors. It is an easy read and one can choose how much effort one wants to put into the detail of personal answers to the questions. It is designed to be read and answered through up to four times if one desires. I would recommend this workbook to anyone battling any type of eating disorder.
