Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 2-- Sooner or later there had to be a book about someone who picks her nose. Super Dooper Jezebel (Farrar, 1988) never would, according to Ross; but Nellie does in the Christmas play at school, and when admonished says, "It won't come out . . . It's stuck ." So everyone tries to extract the finger from the nose, in ever greater elaboration, until small brother Henry, who's been offering his services for many pages, tickles her and the problem is resolved. Wacky, watercolor cartoons embellish the text. It is remotely possible that some people will laugh at this silly story, but most will harken to the title when considering purchase. --Carolyn Jenks, formerly at Oyster River Elementary School, Durham, NH

"Tony Ross is as inventive as ever. The funniest book."  —Bookseller

"Tony Ross has excelled once again in this extremely witty, outrageous tale."  —Child Education

"Ross brings his signature wit. . . . Expressive characters and playful flourishes abound."  —Publishers Weekly on Three Little Kittens and Other Favorite Nursery Rhymes

Purchased this book for my class as so many children were picking their nose. The children loved it. It teachs a great socail lessona s well as sanitation. It could have been a few pages shorter, a bit long for pre-k. But over all it was a great purchase. I would recommned this others.

Format: Paperback
This is a cautionary tale about picking your nose that sort of goes along the lines of the old wives tale don't pull that face because you never know, if the wind changes it might stay that way. Nellie, a cutest child nose contest winner has a bad habit. She likes to shove her finger up her nostril. Unfortunately for her while in the middle of a team pick with her fellow actors in a play, her finger gets stuck. Her teachers can't get it out, her parents can't get it out, her doctor can't get it out, in fact a range of grown ups can't remedy the situation. It looks like Nellie's finger may be stuck up there forever, however he brother Henry (I'm guessing from Horrible Henry fame although I've never read those books) has kept trying to get every adults attention, saying he can get it out while carrying around various things from tool chests and the hardware store. Does he really know all does he just like tormenting his sister?

Don't Do That! is a fun read, on a bit of a taboo subject which just means kids will like it more.
