5.0 out of 5 stars Huge value from small book, September 4, 2003

Don't forget this book,

I have been an active hiker for 28 yrs and have to say this book has been a great tool to help me keep my gaer in great working order.
Gear can last a lifetime and I enjoy maintaining what I have instead of forking over dough for new gear. Kristin's book enables you to quickly and easily repair fix and maintain your gear so it lasts a lifetime. There is nothing worse than mid way through an outdoor experience having an equipment malfunction, leaky tent etc. What a bummer that can be.

I have been looking for a book like this for quite a while and did not expect that it be be so cheap and concise without compromise. Kristin was a gear editor for BackPacker magazine for a number of years, I hope some more useful books like this are in cue.

See you on the summit if the weather's O.K.

Hurley

If anything, this tiny little book should weigh about 60 or 70 pounds. The information is just crammed into the few pages here in a very dense manner. There's little time wasted. Almost every sentence and topic is useful. Want to take better care of your backpacking stove, it's in here. Want some hints on keeping your sleeping bag clean, look in here. Need to know better ways you can repair your boots to keep those 15 year old friends working, look in here. Sprinkled throughout are all kinds of little tips on things you can do with duct tape. It's just a great book. I've already started working on putting together my repair kit that I'll start carrying with me. Oh yeah, the suggested repair kit is in the book too. All of that crammed into this tiny space. See, this book really should weigh more.
