This review is from: Don't Forget To Look Up : A Christian's Guide to Overcoming Anxiety and Panic Attacks (Paperback)
This book is part self-help, and part autobiography. You won't really find a lot of specific ways to help overcome anxiety attacks here. Most of the techniques are very general in nature, and this book is in no way an exhaustive review of how to treat anxiety or panic attacks.Still, the book is very inspirational, and any Christian that suffers from anxiety and panic attacks will find it worth reading. Its main virture is really its inspiration though, rather than any specific methods for combatting anxiety. I found one of the chapters, on Bible verses that relate to anxiety and strength, to be the most helpful. The book is a quick read. You should be able to finish it in 1-2 sittings. Definitely inspirational, and worth your reading time. There aren't many books available on Christian spirituality and conquering anxiety. If you aren't Christian, and have no interest in becoming Christian, this book won't really help you much. If you are, and you suffer from anxiety, definitely check it out.

If you are struggling with anxiety and or panic attacks then you need to read this book. Unlike books written by Doctors about their patients, this author gives you a personal account with her struggles with panic and anxiety and how she was able with God's help to overcome them. I've referred back to this book many times, it's not only filled with practical insight on helping you understand and deal with panic and anxiety but it also refers to scripture dealing with anxiety. I have found that of all the books I've read, this one, has truly helped me the most in my recovery of anxiety. I highly recommend it.

Great Link between Spiritual and Emotional Guidance,

This review is from: Don't Forget To Look Up : A Christian's Guide to Overcoming Anxiety and Panic Attacks (Paperback)
I was recently diagnosed with anxiety and panic disorder and was in great need for some basic Christian support and guidance to help me understand how I could recover from such a disorder. Angela's book provided me with biblical references pertaining to anxiety and a real person's story of tribulation and triumph. This book gives lay terminology for people who are just experiencing the newness of this frightful disorder. The biblical quotes that are given have been a great source of comfort during many hard times. I strongly recommend this book to any person needing a true, sincere and simple look at what panic attacks and anxiety disorders are, what God has to say about them, and how to find inner-strength to recover.

Little help offered here...,

Although there are a few helpful items in this book, most is utterly useless. The authors 'name it and claim it' theology offers no real help in times of need. A good portion of the book is dedicated to her ripping on her first husband and trying to justify the divorce, then praising of her new husband. You can do better elsewhere. I was very disappointed.

Easy to Understand--Points You in the Right Direction!,

This review is from: Don't Forget To Look Up : A Christian's Guide to Overcoming Anxiety and Panic Attacks (Paperback)
This book is one that I can easily relate to. It speaks to me in an easy to understand format and is down to earth. Many books concerning anxiety and panic attacks speak in deep psychological terms, which often cause you to feel uneducated and more anxious. The author speaks in an easy to understand way and has also and does experience the vicious anxiety that I am going through. She points to the only hope for help-- God!

I've read this book about 3 times now and it is a really good constant reminder about where your focus should be especially from a Christian's perspective. Being a christian myself, I found it to be very inspirational and felt encouraged reading from someone else's experience with panic and anxiety and how they have overcome it yet still have the occassional bought of anxiety which is considered normal. Our thought processes really affect how our body is going to react. Knowledge is power. This is one book that I refer to over and over since it is very easy and quick to read. I believe it has really helped in my overall recovery of panic attacks.

I am so glad people can share their experiences with others when they go through something so traumatic. I loved the scriptures I received from the book, I have been searching for scriptures that would help me.( is it not amazing how GOD sends us what we need;-)) Noone can understand what Panic and anxiety is all about until they themselves live the nightmare. Angela lived it, she overcame it, and she shared it with others. That is the whole purpose in life, to live, learn and share with others. Thank you so much, for all the information I received, and for the care that you put into the book. I plan to get my whole family to read this book because it takes understanding something to be able to help someone. GOD will surely bless you in every way, through reading this book.

I found the book to be very helpfull.I suffered from anxiety and panic attacks since I was a child and this book shared wonderful,Biblical insight plus, I loved how she had Spiritual prescriptions and Medication options, because sometimes we feel we are lacking in faith when we turn to medication for anxiety. But i thank GOD for a writer who shares from her heart her story to bring healing to others like myself. Like Mrs. Brittain said herself, The Lord wants to set us free, and people are getting set free threw the writings of this book.

The Problem With Miracles,
By
This review is from: Don't Forget To Look Up : A Christian's Guide to Overcoming Anxiety and Panic Attacks (Paperback)
When reflecting upon Faith and Health issues it is important to recognize that poor health (in whatever form) is not CAUSED by lack of FAITH. In the words of The Rev. Barbara Brown Taylor, who is among the top twelve preachers in the English speaking world (Newsweek), "One of the meanest things religious people do is blame it [illness] on a lack of faith....I believe [they] are well intentioned. I also believe they had gotten mixed up about what causes miracles. They thought faith made miracles happen. They thought miracles worked along the same lines as those strength tests you used to see at county fairs... If you were really strong you could ring the bell and win the prize...In other words they thought miracles were something they could control. If you are sick and getting sicker, it must be your own fault. You must try harder, pump up your faith and ring the bell. Impress God with your belief and claim your miracle as reward. Only this is idolatry, do you see?" I have no issue with seeking strength from God to deal with panic and anxiety, I do take issue with the concept that there is a set formula to follow, and that if you are faithful enough you will find that you have been "delivered" from what may actually be a true medical condition.
