5.0 out of 5 stars What is happening to Danielle's brother?, August 22, 2000
This review is from: Don't Forget Me! (The Nightmare Room, Book 1) (Paperback)
Fifteen-year-old Danielle, her parents, and her pesky nine-year-old brother Peter have just moved in to a creepy old house. Peter is so annoying that sometimes Danielle wishes she didn't have a brother. For example, when Danielle and her friend Addie are practicing pretended to be hypnotized for a school talent show, Peter insists on getting hypnotized, too. And after that, things start to get really weird. Peter is acting strange. He's forgetting things. Little things at first. But then big things. And strange voices are calling to him from the dark basement of the house. A mysterious guy in a long black coat is following Danielle around. What is causing Peter's amnesia? The mysterious guy? The hypnosis? Danielle's wish? The house itself? Read the book to find out! It's R. L. Stine's first new book in quite a while, and starts off a terrifying new series called The Nightmare Room.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is pretty good., October 9, 2001

I've always been a huge fan of R.L. Stine's works - he's one of the best authors for kids' books and one of my role models, as I hope to someday become an author. My favorite R.L. Stine series are the original GOOSEBUMPS series and the original FEAR STREET series. But I also think GOOSEBUMPS 2000 and GHOSTS OF FEAR STREET are pretty good, too. I've read this first book in his new series THE NIGHTMARE ROOM, and I can already tell that this new series will be as original, exciting, chilling, and solidly written as the original GOOSEBUMPS series was.

In this first book, DON'T FORGET ME, Danielle thinks her brother, Peter, is so annoying. She wishes she was an only child. Then she and her family move into this creepy old house and strange things start happening to Peter. He's starting to forget things and he keeps hearing strange voices in the house calling to him. It's another one of R.L. Stine's famous haunted house adventures, but just as good and original as all the others with lots of twists and surprises.

And if you like this new book series, then also check out the brand-new TV show based on the books (R.L. Stine is even one of the exclusive producers!) also called "The Nightmare Room", which airs every Saturday morning on the Kids' WB - it's great, too! Today's episode even starred Justin Bertfield from TV's "Malcolm In The Middle" and it was so cool! The TV show is a must see and the book series is a must read! Great for all ages. :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great first book for a promising new series, July 5, 2001

This book is really different. When I read it, I could tell it was a lot more mature than Goosebumps and had a great new idea that kinda delves back into the old haunted house ideas. I really enjoyed reading it. Some parts were weird - including the insanely crazy description of the clothes Addy liked to wear. What is R.L.Stine thinking? Anyway I highly recommend this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars DONT FORGET ME!, July 9, 2011

Amazing book. Best work by Stine I have ever seen. The beggining might make you drop the book but the middle is filld with twists and thrills. Bright future for this series indeed.

Peter is a cheerful nine year old boy. Her sister wishes she was an only child. Her brother catches his sister with her friend pretending to hypnotize each other for a school talent show. Peter beggs his sister to do it on him. His sister does it, and we wakes up. He starts forgetting major things and acting weird. Peters sister also hears voices downstairs calling "Peter... Peter".

What will happen in this exciting book?

I really loved this book. R.L. Stine is my favorite author. A long time ago I was too scared to read them because I thought they would be too scary but I am so glad that I decided to give them a chance. R.L. Stine's way of writing really pull's you into right book.

I think these qualify as Twilight Zone for kids and tweens...simple, easy to read...but compelling and slightly frightening, Don't Forget Me has a VERY Twilight Zone feel to the beginning and it holds up fairly well with the first person narrative (story is told from the perspective of Danielle, a 15 year old whose family just moved into an old rambling house).

As it happens, Danielle has an annoying little brother and just may get her wish to be an only child...this book piles it on with bumps in the night, doors that open by themselves and apparitions...that and a creepy old basement helps things along quite nicely! Will Danielle be able to help her family remember her and her brother? You'll have to read to find out...and it also has a further tip of the hat to Twilight Zone at the very end...quite well done!

This is our first experience with R.L. Stein and we'll probably be back for more. We're also looking to get Girl (who is finally old enough to read such things on her own) some of the Goosebumps stories to read...especially since fall is coming on and we all LOVE Halloween.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Spooky,Chilling Book., December 29, 2001

This review is from: Don't Forget Me! (The Nightmare Room, Book 1) (Paperback)
R.L. Stine. The best author in his time in my opion. The Nightmare Room series is fantastic. I have also read the second one. All his series are great but this one tops them all. Goosebumps and Fear Street are great series. But if you want something even more chilling try the Nightmare Room series.
Don't Forget Me is a fantastis book about an annoying boy who starts forgeting who and where is is. He suddnely keeps disappearing into the basement. I will not tell you what happens in there. You need to read the book to find out.
This book is one of a kind. So get off the computer and buy!
