2.0 out of 5 stars Fredro Starr- Don't Get Mad Get Money, June 5, 2003
This review is from: Don't Get Mad Get Money (Audio CD)
Fredro Starr's sophomore album "Dont't Get Mad Get Money" is a dissapointing album for me. Two years ago I bought "Firestarr" and was really impressed by Starr's debut album, felt he came out raw, hungry, and dropped some memorable songs on that one. Felt that was the best solo album a Onyx member yet. On this one I feel like he has fallen off, his lyrical content is boring (talking about shoes, girls etc) and I found myself skipping tracks as I listend to this, the only track I really felt was "Where's the Love" which uses an Issac Hayes Sample. Fredro's lyrics on this track come from an old collabo with Blaze. Not to say all the rest of tracks are wack, there average, and maybe even better, but none stood out enough for me to make this an album worth getting. "California Girls" lead single may serve as a summertime hit, personally I think it just sounds like 99% of rap music out, and is not a track worth remixing, especially for the last song of the album. I think production and guest appearances are both poor on this as well, none of the guest appearances really enhance the album in my opinion. After all these negative comments you might think I dislike the guy, but in truth I have liked alot of his music up to this, I hope he kicks it up some notches on his next album. Maybe I am more into more conscientious rap now, whatever the case I just didnt feel "Don't Get Mad Get Money".

3.0 out of 5 stars Dont Get Me Wrong, Fredros the Man BUT......, September 1, 2003
By
This review is from: Don't Get Mad Get Money (Audio CD)
It has some major flaws.
#1 It has definately crossed over into the commercial zone but is not quite totally commercial
#2 Many of the beats are California influenced and he is into California now and Im disappointed by the lack of loyalty to NYC on this one. What ever happened to keepin it real with the roots?
#3 Many of the beats are Whack

Besides that it does have some bangin tracks.... I felt tracks #2 (Dangerous), and #9 (All Out) Were Slammin.

And it had some songs that were good enough 1,10,11,13

And again dont get me wrong I think Fredro is a good rapper and I have always been impressed by his style and I love Onyx, But I just feel he could do much better.

Peace
